AOC - Crafting

Post by Bubba Grizz »

Ok I am not level 40 yet so I am not able to pick a crafting profession. However you are able to harvest mats as you can but you can only harvest tier1 mats until you reach 40 as well. I can't say that I am all that comfortable with this system yet. I have some uneasy feelings about how crafting works.

The Bad: (strictly my observations)
Why would anyone want to be an architect if the only things that they can really build are buildings for the Guild City. In the situation that I am in where I joined a guild that had the ability to have a GC, they have a single person who has built almost the whole thing. He powered up to level 80 and now has all the main buildings done but still needs to do walls. By the time I get close enough to help out the place will be built and I feel that being an Architect would be worthless.

The Good:
I like that they are using a Quest method to advance in skill as opposed to constant repetition of creating the same item until your skill level goes up. I'm not sure how in depth they are with this but I am already sensing that they could do so much more with it.

Believe it or not I really really enjoyed Vanguard's crafting. They had it well put together and the sense of accomplishment, even in just finding materials, was significant. I don't get that feeling yet with this game. I hope I do.

Vanguard's crafting was probably more fleshed out that than adventuring...
I really wish that game wasn't such a buggy, unfinished piece of shit.

Is it still being worked on? Maybe it's improved since the last time you played it!

I heard rumors of a re-release but never saw any hype on it. Not that I'd go back.

I logged back in a few months back.
Played around for a weekend.

It's less buggy but pretty deserted and still a mess.

Ok the way their harvesting works is kind of like this. For tier 1 you do a quest to get 20 Sandstone (for example). Once you get those items and return he sends you out to get a rare item from the Sandstone which in this case is Quartz. You only have to get one and then you return and give it to him and he is all happy. Then he will want to teach you how to stone cut Granite but only you know what? He can't because you need to be level 50 to get that skill. It is very much like that for all the other harvestables. Basically it pushes you to level faster so that you can get the materials you need for crafting.

What also bothers me is that it seems that the majority of the items you can harvest are mainly found in that one instance. You can find it out in other instances but it is pretty much not as plentiful. Also there seems to only be about 3-4 types of each item, sandstone, granite, basalt or ash, yew, oak.

This all pretty much annoys the hell out of me for some reason. This system may also be a game breaker for me but not sure yet. I will continue another month to see. I really love the combat and some of the concepts of the game but sometimes it just isn't enough.

I went looking for copper, found maybe 4/20 and wrote that part of the game off. Huge waste of time looking for metal deposits. Maybe some of the other areas of crafting are better.
