Washington - Czech President Vaclav Klaus said Tuesday he is ready to debate Al Gore about global warming, as he presented the English version of his latest book that argues environmentalism poses a threat to basic human freedoms. "I many times tried to talk to have a public exchange of views with him, and he's not too much willing to make such a conversation," Klaus said. "So I'm ready to do it."

Klaus was speaking a the National Press Building in Washington to present his new book, Blue Planet in Green Shackles - What Is Endangered: Climate or Freedom?, before meeting with Vice President Dick Cheney Wednesday.

"My answer is it is our freedom and, I might add, and our prosperity," he said.

Gore a former US vice president who has become a leading international voice in the cause against global warming, was co-winner of this year's Nobel Peace Prize. Gore's effort was highlighted by his Oscar winning documentary film An Inconvienent Truth.

Klaus, an economist, said he opposed the "climate alarmism" perpetuated by environmentalism trying to impose their ideals, comparing it to the decades of communist rule he experienced growing up in Soviet-dominated Czechoslovakia.

"Like their (communist) predecessors, they will be certain that they have the right to sacrifice man and his freedom to make their idea reality," he said.

"In the past, it was in the name of the Marxists or of the proletariat - this time, in the name of the planet," he added.

Klaus said a free market should be used to address environmental concerns and said he oppposed as unrealistic regulations or greenhouse gas capping systems designed to reduce the impact of climate change.

"It could be even true that we are now at a stage where mere facts, reason and truths are powerless in the face of the global warming propaganda," he said.

Klaus alleged that the global warming was being championed by scientists and other environmentalists whose careers and funding requires selling the public on global warming.

"It is in the hands of climatologists and other related scientists who are highly motivated to look in one direction only," Klaus said.

Wow. What an idiot. Didn't he read the IPCC?

I'm guessing you are as guilty of not reading and knowing what he is actually saying as you blame us for about (not) reading the IPCC report.

It sounded to me like he wasn't necessarily directly challenging the idea of global warming, just saying that the posed solutions would require violation of what we consider our rights. I have made this point myself when speaking of the possibility of a solution to the population control factor.

Not to mention that if Al Gore eats, breathes and shits the IPCC like he most certainly should, and the IPCC report is so infallible that if god questioned it he would be promptly struck down by an almighty bitchslap - Gore should have no trouble making short work of this guy. Right?

I cant stop watching that....

Anyways... Gore has specifically stated that he will NOT debate global warming with anyone... Period (.)

He knows his political carreer is toast, thats why he took up the druidic crusade of Global Warming instead.

He didn't take up the cause when he ended his political career. Ever hear of a little book called Earth In the Balance that he wrote and that was published before he was selected as Bill Clinton's runningmate in 1992? He's championed environmental issues for virtually all of his political career, and held congressional hearings on climate change before this country elected your beloved deranged evil old coot of a nightmare President Reagan. He's just become more vocal about it in the last several years.

That's right. His mind was made up a long time ago... actual reason and thought be damned!

Once again for the mentally impaired... the problem is the proposed solutions, and the alarmism.

A little anti-alarmism for you (and no, i don't agree with this.. but the mockery is justified) http://www.carbonbelchday.com

Look, shit pickle, take a look at my fucking post once again. I wasn't agreeing or disagreeing with anything you're talking about. Whether or not Mr. Gore is open to new findings is not relevant at all to my point. I simply clarified the point of when Gore's activism began that Rump was a bit confused about. I no longer bother wasting the energy it takes to move my typing muscles debating actual issues with any of you clowns.

It's even funnier that all of those types you listed are better at making posts that are on topic and address the issue (whether they are right or wrong isn't the point) instead of just slinging around anti-U.S. or anti-whatever nick doesn't like today comments.

Compared to you and your brother (although in fairness you're substantially smarter than him), I'm the fucking intellectual messiah. 8)

Could you please direct me to the rational arguments made in this thread? All I see is Anti Al Gore and IPCC tripe. Why don't the Anti-science brigade all go look for jobs at Fox, the last few years here look like a long string of failed auditions for the job of Bill O'Relly's jizz mopper from some people.

Alarmism I can agree with, the rest of the nonsense is just a waste of everyone's time to read. Also, in this thread, Animale > you.

I don't see why you would limit it to this thread, but ok, all I basically said was that the proposed solutions are the problem. That argument, which is shared by the Czech President, is pretty god damned reasonable and wide spread. Then, yes, I bashed Al Gore.

Anyways, I imagine when Animale writes a tell-all book later in life, he will say he was misled. :D I kid, but the thing you seem to miss, Nick, is that Animale agrees with me that the solutions could be worse than the problem... He just wants to defend the science and leave policy up to the politicians.
