Microsoft abandons the Yahoo bid.

Post by Animalor »

They upped their offer to 33$ a share from 29$ and still Yahoo wouldn't move.
MS and company decided to drop the offer and won't be taking this hostile either.

I've been reading some blogs and people are thinking this will hit Yahoo's stock monday morning.

Looking forward to the fallout of this.

Did you short YHOO?

It's probably too late because it will gap down on Monday. Both long time YHOO stock holders and speculators should be pissed over this. Yahoo is way overshadowed by Google. Microsoft would have given it a chance IMO.

I've used My Yahoo as my web home start page for over ten years. (still use old style and not the new beta home page). I like/liked it because it's fairly low bandwidth and simple. I've had groups of stocks listed on the page since I first started using it. I could find another start page that has what Yahoo offers but I haven't (now that I'm thinking of it I might go searching for a new start page).

Yahoo does have some influence but it's paper thin. Everything they offer is done better and available elsewhere. They should have taken MSFT's offer immediately. It's not like Microsoft is going to stop pursuing a chunk of the web search/advertising pie and they've got the billions to do it so now Yahoo will be in a worse position eventually. Last I heard, Yahoo is trying to reinvent itself into a social networking site...um, there's plenty of those already.

I would like to see competition for Google. As much as I like GOOG, I don't want any single company dominating the net do much.

I agree with everything you said. I haven't studied Yahoo extensively in some time, but I just don't understand why the rejected the offer from MS which seems generous (and yet foolhardy for MSFT).

I don't see any chance of them getting more than what MS was offering, but then again, I haven't looked at the situation extensively so maybe there's a mystery buyer out there I'm not aware of.
Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.

Very early pre market, YHOO is trading at 22.50, down from 28.67 close on Friday.

Some dude is talking about killing himself on a Yahoo forum because he maxed out his margin after getting 2nd mortgage on his house. Ouch.

Should be interesting when the market opens. It totally gambling atm if you buy YHOO. There are bound to be more rumors of possible buyers of YHOO. This would probably be a good buy if it drops below 20 tomorrow but I'm not touching it.

"INC, 30% loss for some!"

shouts, "TRAIN of sellers!"

Maybe Microsoft will lower their bid by 10 Billion and offer again.

Fuck the stock price and then do a hostile takeover when it tanks.

Sounds like Microsoft to me!

Yahoo blows! Jerry Yang deserves to be lynched by his shareholders.
