Diary of the Dead - George Romero

Post by Canelek »

Just watched this over the weekend. It is a low-budget Romero zombie flick (duh!). Think it was done for about 2 million.

Anyways, think Blair Witch/Cloverfield or whatnot since it is shot via handcam PoV. It chronicles the survival of a group of college students from Pitt who are filming a horror flick in the woods during which people all of a sudden start returning from the dead.

Yeah, nothing really groundbreaking, but that was not the point. Romero wanted to have fun and throw a bone (hehehe) to fans of the genre. In that sense, I had a fun time watching this one. Aside from pretty bad acting for the most part, this film had enough funny moments, one liners and campy zombie goodness to keep me entertained throughout. I think Romero is a huge Peter Jackson fan also--some of the funnier scenes were right out of Jackson's book.

I highly recommend if you are a fan of the genre.

8/10! :D

I'll definately be getting the dvd. I thought it was an interesting approach for a zombie flick.
