Rainbow Six Vegas 2

Post by Animalor »

Got the game yesterday and automatically started my game as a hosted co-op game. Tossed a friend an invite and off we went(My first gripe with the game is why did they only do pulbic xbox live and completely private only, couldn't there be an option where only people in your friends list can freely join?)

The game's co-op plays through exactly like the SP mode(as advertised). My second gripe is that I did have some pretty bad framerate drops at one or two points in the first 3 acts. I'm not sure wether this is due to the fact that I was playing MP or my xbox itself or too much shit on screen. It was annoying but not a dealbreaker.

The first thing you do when you start the game is create your character. If you payed R6 Vegas 1, you'll actually get an experience bonus and some unlocks right away which was a nice thank you from Ubi. Any gamemode you play in the game will be played with this custom character. Experience and unlocks move across game modes as well. a very very nice concept and something I hope more games adhere to.

I'm not 100% sure if they moved some of the buttons on the controller around but some of them feel kinda out of place. The dash button most of all. I was chucking grenades all night trying to use B to run. instead of the Left Shoulder Button.

Overall if you liked the original R6V, this one is more of the same, enhanced. I'm really enjoying it personally.

Also, if you go to the Extras menu, there's an option for a Comcast Gift and Extra Content. The passford for the Comcast Gift is "Comcast Faster" and that will unlock a MP map. I believe this is the Los Vegas Convention Center. The Extra Content is a map you get if you associate your gamertag with your ubi.com account. The map is the Streets map from R6V I believe(a 100MB download)

B button has always been grenades for RB6. Gets confusing as hell switching between that and CoD4 heh. There are going to be shit tons of complaints because it has the same feel and basic gameplay as RB6V 1. Personally I liked the first one and they added things to make the multiplayer on this version better. It is tough to compare it to CoD4 because the gameplay on it is just so different. Not better....not worse....just different.

You're telling me. Absolutely confusing, and I didn't play a whole lot of CoD4 either.

Got through the first 3 acts co-op with a buddy last night(I was hosting) and the latency was absolutely fantastic. Not one lag hiccup the whole 2-3 hours I played.

One thing I'm reading about this morning however is that the Private first Class Achievement is broken currently if you played R6V1. When you first login the game, you get that XP bonus that automatically shoots you up to the specialist rank. You never get to have the PFC rank and hence, don't get the actual achievement.

yea...I noticed that as well. Not that big a deal to me and I would figure they will patch that at soem point soon anyway. In all reality it was super rare to have any type of latency issues on the first one....even with hosts or players in the red. I can't tell you how many times on CoD that you bounced all over the place and had conenction issues when a host had a bad ping.

I was mainly only playing the single player stuff....but I can't wait til tonight to hit the terrorist hunts with friends. That is where I think the Rb6 series has it over CoD.....the variety of co-op play. I really enjoyed the terrorist hunts in the first one and if they improved the AI at all, this should be a hell of a lot of fun.

Well, since this is the console forum, I would assume they are playing the 360 version. The 360 requires Live for online matchmaking. Maybe you were asking something else?

There are plenty of console games that aren't neutered by that online matchmaking pile of shit that Microsoft calls Live.
But thanks for your input.

I have never seen a problem with matchmaking in any game I played on the 360. The only one I had problems with was Shadowrun on the PC.

So can anyone actually tell me if it requires the use of a pay service to play online?

What 360 game doesn't?

The PC version does not appear the carry the XBox Live logo. The 360 version does.

Ever heard of Halo?

Lots of other cross-platform games don't require you to pay for MS Live service to play online.

I figure MS didn't want to hamper sales of Halo 2 for Vista with the Gold fee. Not sure what they'll do for other ports or for cross-platform for that matter. The only way they'll get reliable and widely embraced cross-platform between the 360 and the PC will be by dropping the 50$ fee.

So R6 Vegas 2 for the 360, need gold. PC is free, PS3 is free. Pick your poison...

In all seriousness, if you own an Xbox system and buy all the games for it plus all the accessories, plus a big screen to play it on, plus have cable or DSL, and are complaining about spending $50 per year to be able to play pretty much every game they make online, then you are bitching just to hear yourself bitch. That is not even considering the shit you get extra with the service.....FREE downloadable content for many of the games, mail system, voice messenging, video messenging, and free downloadable samples of games you can try before you buy.

I mean really.....everyone on this console forum gets paid at least $50 a year just taking a shit at work.

I was inquiring more about the windows version of the game and didn't think it was prudent to start another thread.

I understand that you think it's fine that MS has sold you on paying for a service which has always been free on a PC but paying $50 a year to play a handful of mostly shitty PC games online is a pretty fucking awful deal.

Interestingly I played another 2 acts co-op last night and didn't experience ANY of the framerate issues that I ran into on Tuesday.

The convention center level is absolutely fantastic. Loved it.

But the ads in this game. Everything from movies, DVD released to laptop computers. They're everywhere. It's absolutely retarded.

I'm ok with an ad here or there but when every other texture is an ad, it gets sorta annoying. Never mind the fact that the event going on at the convention center is the Major League of Gaming and when the texture isn't an ad, it's the MLG logo... was a bit much.

Gonna be a crazy weekend for me so I dunno if I'll be able to play it much.... but I'll pick this up on the way home tonight.
Would be nice to be able to play cross-platform but I think (hope) there will be enough PC players.

You have to pay for the internet with Microsoft Live too, so I don't see your point?

Also, at this point, everyone realizes he's talking about Windows Live, and not Xbox Live (which you also have to pay for an internet connection to use), right?

So, we're actually arguing about the additional 4$ for MS gold per month? We're arguing that 4 bucks a month is somehow gouging or taking advantage of a 360 owner? Or that somehow, the customer is not getting a return on his 4$ per month? Christ.

Some places 360 Gold plus Internet would be cheaper than just the Internet connection. Depending on the cost of your Internet, it's a total wash. But whatever. Complain all you want.

It's not the monetary cost.
It's the principle of charging players for something that has been free with PC gaming since forever.
Do you think CS, BF, UT or Quake would have been as successful if they required players to pay $50/year on top of the price of the game?

Some places 360 Gold plus Internet would be cheaper than just the Internet connection. Depending on the cost of your Internet, it's a total wash.

I have never used Windows Live to my knowledge. But with consoles, there was never a possibility to connect and play from your own house with someone else until Xbox and live came out. PC's have had a reason to connect over the net long before they started gaming with them. But anyway, I am heading to the shitter right now to make enough for both of our connections for the next month.

You are mistaken.
I admit that Live is quite robust and easy to use but services like it have been available free on the PC for years.

No, I believe Miir was not talking about 360's at all, but the PC version. And he was asking if you need Windows Live (Also a service that is different than xbox live service, except that you get both if you have either), and was complaining that Microsoft charged for playing online games similar to ones that have never been charged for.

The fact that in some places, internet might be cheaper than others places (as much as $4 a month), seems pretty irrelevant to this conversation. The complaint was (as i stated above), that you had to pay to play PC games online.

This game looks pretty awesome, I would probably pick it up if my 360 actually read game discs. Considering picking it up for the PC, but I have a hard time playing anything on my PC other than WoW and WC3 (custom games).
