Do you even know what a yuppy is? I'm any number of things, but I'm glad to say I'm not a yuppy. Whatever, though. I don't hate him because he said bad things about "my peeps" (whoever that happens to be). I think he deserves hell if there was such a place because of how much damage to the world was caused the policies that he and his devotees espoused and helped to popularize.

Such as? Umm economic growth so you could have that computer your reading? Or wait is it, the upholding of the constitution so that you have the right to choose your own life? Or wait was it his ardent defense of our military, so that you could be safe from the CCCP and Theological regimes who really really want to see you die...

I think I really meant, liberal hippy flowerchild peace dreaming idealist uninformed douchebag, but I was so irritated by his complete arrogance and total lack of any clue of what the fuck he is talking about that I just said the first thing that came to mind.nneenaK wrote:Xatrei a yuppy, I haven't laughed so hard in quite a long time. I guess that challenge ended early.

Seriously, why the hate for Buckley? Because he was conservative?

Oh no, I lost no challenge. This thread was not started to spark serious conversation, it was started in a crude, ignorant, flame baiting manner and judging by the topic of the thread alone, I am by no means off topic.Spang wrote:I guess that challenge ended early.

Re: If there was a hell, it would be a little more crowded today
I don't hate people just because they're conservatives. Many of my friends and family are conservatives, even my wife, and I certainly don't hate any of them. With regards to Buckley, I feel that he, like many other icons of the modern conservative movement, is a special case. He espoused a great number of concepts that were grounded in class and social bigotry, wanton capitalist avarice and the preservation of the privileged status enjoyed by the wealthy elite. Setting aside the fact that he seemed to adore men like Joseph McCarthy and fascist icon Francisco Franco, Buckley is the man defended and encouraged segregationist policy and racist Jim Crow laws. At a time when it mattered, he opposed national civil rights legislation, changing positions only when it was expedient to do so and his support, or lack thereof, no longer counted for anything. The fact that he later claimed to regret a few of his earlier positions doesn't absolve him of responsibility for influencing many of the worst manifestations the conservative movement. He, among others, shaped the conservative idealism of archfiend Ronald Reagan (the world still hasn't recovered from that demented old gasbag). The economic policies and political causes that Buckley espoused helped to usher into existence conditions that continue to harm hundreds of millions of people around the world. He has left the world polluted by any number of Buckley devotees preaching his brand of nonsense in a less engaging way (see Jonah Goldberg for one stunning example).masteen wrote:Seriously, why the hate for Buckley? So no, I have no fondness for this silver-tongued embodiment of decadent, right-wing, me-first corruption, nor do I mourn his passing.

By the world, do you mean the Soviet Union? Oh but the Soviet Union was paradise on earth to your kind wasnt it? What did the gasbag do to destroy the world? As far as I can tell, the world seems to be in good shape. Cold War over, Europe is joining hands together for the first time since the Roman era. Asia has seen stunning growth potential. Africa, well ok ya got me there, but That wasn't reagans fault. He, among others, shaped the conservative idealism of archfiend Ronald Reagan (the world still hasn't recovered from that demented old gasbag).
So we have the downfall of the Soviet Union, and Africa in turmoil. Yep the world still hasnt recovered.

The answer to this is "no." Notwithstanding the fact that it's nonsense, the rest of your tirade is irrelevant given the failure of your initial assumption, so I'll ignore it. Due to your proven track record of being even more thick-headed and ignorant than Midnyte, I'd normally ignore you, but I'm feeling charitable tonight, so I'll answer just this once.Noysyrump wrote:By the world, do you mean the Soviet Union?

Fine you two go enjoy your buttsecks and enjoy your life of sheeple, believing in the doomsday speeches Al Gore and his ilk give you on a daily basis. Because the earth is melting, the economy is in the toilet, our healthcare sucks, millions are dying in an illegal war, and oil is da debil.
I however. Am going to go spend all this extra money I have on new exciting electronic equipment that will help me enjoy my long life in peace.
You realize, 100 years ago, you actually had to worry about getting eaten by a bear on a daily basis. Your life is fucking GREAT and you dont even get it. because people like Buckley and Reagan have ruined every aspect of it. But you'll champion a dipshit like Gore who wants to take what money you do have to spend because he will save the planet!

You took this thread and spun it way out of proportion into another nonsensical, totally fucking stupid neocon rant. It's amazing. You're beginning to surpass even the ignorance displayed by Funk and Mid. Congratulations.

You realize, there's been more (documented) bear attack fatalities in the past 20 years than in the previous 80. So what does that tell you? Exactly. Do a little research first!Noysyrump wrote:You realize, 100 years ago, you actually had to worry about getting eaten by a bear on a daily basis.
