Too Human

Post by Funkmasterr »

Another game coming (May 6th) that looks pretty bad ass now that it's nearly finished. It looks to be combining a bunch of aspects of console RPGs and MMO's, and a little bit of third person shooter too. I think it could end up being a damn good game. Here are some links:

This has actually been getting kinda crappy reviews, seems like about a 7/10 on average. The main complaints seem to be pretty consistent:

1- Camera controls (or lack thereof.)

I know this is a really sore spot for a lot of people but it isn't a big deal to me unless it is extremely cumbersome, and gauging it by what I saw in the demo, it's not.

2- Enemies scaling to your level. The complaints have been that making the enemies scale takes a lot of enjoyment out of the game, because you never get to feel bad ass no matter how nice your loot gets.

This does kinda suck, but it's not a deal breaker for me, and here's why: I think the game will still be fun, and hopefully they will correct this in the second and third games. You will transfer your character from the first game to the second and so on, so I'd rather have a leveled up character to start the second game with :)

Those were the two biggest gripes I saw. They aren't enough to deter me from buying it, I'll be picking it up tonight! The one thing I would have liked to see is more players for co-op (maybe 5 or 6 instead of 2), but again, there are always hopes for the subsequent games.

I guess co-op for this game is a ton better than single player, so if anyone is getting this tonight and wants to give it a shot let me know!

Ten hour playtime for the campaign? They can suck a cock. I preordered this, but it doesn't look like I'll fullfill that order. I would rather lose 5$ than pay another 55 for a game I won't get my money's worth out of. If it had local multiplayer, I would get it no matter what so my wife and I could play, but it dosen't even have that. Another complaint against it is that you have unlimited lives and recieve no real punishment for death, beyond watching the Valkrye animation sequence over and over.

I decided to keep my eye on it, and when it hits the cheapie bin, I'll pick it up then. $60 for 10 hours of gameplay is beyond shit.

Too bad, I was really looking forward to this game.

I have the game sitting on my desk right now. Looking forward to going home and giving it a playthrough. All the reviews I've read so far say that the co-op is great.

Did you buy Call of Duty 4? It only had about 2.5 or 3 hours of gameplay (and no local co op) and no one here but me seemed to have a problem with it.

This is meant to be a game that you play more than once to level up and collect armor/weapons, like in a MMO/diablo, etc. So it only having 10 hours of gameplay isn't as big of a deal to me, I guess.

Looking forward to the co-op!

CoD4 isn't an action RPG. My online CoD4 is over 40 hours alone. You do not play vs other people in Too Human, you just co op the campaign. I think the campaign in CoD4 was more like 6ish hours for me. It was also an above average, polished game. You are the only person I have ever read about that didn't like it. Meanwhile, Too Human is just about the complete opposite. I've yet to read a positive review.

CoD4 single player was short. But I'd seriously doubt it was 2.5-3 hours short. Unless you're playing on like infant level or something. Most put it at 5-6 hours.

Irregardless, as someone who doesn't care about multi-player I did feel that the single player campaign was too short

So I played this till 2 AM. Lots of fun was had. Bio Engineer may not be the best solo class out there.

Some enemies are complete bitches (I'm looking at your spider things in the Snow forest).

Character customization it out of this world. Runes, blueprints, etc etc etc. Lost of meat here. I knew about class skills when I played the demo, at about 1am last night I discovered Alignment Skills by pressing the Right Button on the Skill tree. I may have to respec.

I think I'll be playing this for a while. Combat can get very very manic and crazy.
The Leaderboards are really well done too. It keeps track of kills, highest combo's and all sorts of other stuff.

I'm definately going to get my money's worth out of this game.

My feelings exactly! I played as a berserker and I love it, the haste skills you get to speed you up the higher your combo meter gets rocks, I can get to the point where I'm just blurring around hitting shit :D

I like the customization too, and I can't wait to get some more stuff in my inventory so I can take that even further!

So I've been playing it today, and it seems to me like they maybe designed the game a bit too much around multiplayer.. As a berserker I'm dying a TON. The big spider things are the worst, the only way to get their stupid force field down is to shoot them, and it's nearly impossible to target them when there are 150 things on the screen, so they literally just chain kill me..

Maybe it will get better, but this is really frustrating me currently.

I'm found that at some spots, if it seems like you're fighting overwhelming odds, there's usually something you can trigger in the environment to even the odds. (at least I ran into that once in the snow forest.)

Well I just got through that level after the snow forest and didn't find anything like that trap thing again, but the fights were all a lot more reasonable.

Throwing up mobs in the air and juggling then did expand my survivability quite a bit as well.

Yeah I'm still getting used to everything you can do, there's a lot to this game and I love it!

By the way, I have a pair of pants that give +bio engineer abilities that you may or may not want.. I think they are like level 16 or 18.

Don't bother - Frankly I burn through different sets of gear so fast at the moment that is almost isn't worth it. Most of my gear at the moment is red (one of the rarer levels of gear at the moment) L22 stuff.

I think stuff found like this will be more worthwhile in the 40's and 50's.

True, yeah that thing I got is red, but I don't actually have any equipment I can use that's red yet :(

What is the level cap for the first game? I don't recall.

No idea.

Man I just keep finding stuff to customize in this game. Did you notice that Runes can be inserted into Charms? That's how you complete them, put the runes in and then complete the requirement on them.

Then the Level 2 charms need completed Level 1 charms to complete those.

This game is a musthave for anyone that loves character customization.

The Helheim level is absolute <3. A ton of the smaller, not as tough baddies that just swarm you. (as opposed to the damned Dark Elves).

I wish I could say the same about helheim. I beat the dog thing a while ago and I'm still in it, and I'm so sick and tired of running into a group of 20 of those zombie things with guns that take me 25 minutes to kill that it's starting to not be fun :(

I don't know if there is some easier way to kill them that I don't know about but having enemies that are this tough is more annoying to me than anything.

Really? I thought the Ice Forest was way tougher than Helheim personally. All those Trolls and Dark Elves were constantly taking me out. I was nasty.

The only thing I really had an issue with in Helheim was when the fat bastards on the floating barges showed up. Aside from those spots I really liked the level.

I should have clarified, those spots with the big fat fuckers is where I'm talking about too, the crowd of little guys that follows them around seemed to take literally about 20 minutes each cause I was too busy dying to kill them.

I really do think this is a good game though. I completely agree with the guy in the video that you posted, and I would like to add to what he said too. As far as the complaints about enemies scaling to your level, etc (which I think was one of, if not the biggest complaint) - people need to keep in mind that this is going to be a trilogy, and your character is going to transfer at the level you have it at, with all the equipment and everything else - in between games.

Balancing the game becomes a bit more of an issue in that scenario, and I think that is a lot of why the game is the way it is.

The one thing I think could use a little bit of tuning (at least for single player) - is the boss fights. There is definitely some tactic involved, but for every bit of tactic there is, there's an equal or greater part of crap. And by crap I mean just hack-slash-die-hack-slash-die. I don't know if they think that you need to die a shit ton to make something challenging, or if that was just the easiest way to make the boss fights slow you down a bit.

And to the people saying there is no punishment for dying, you couldn't be more wrong. Having to watch that fucking animation every_single_fucking_time you die gets to be more than enough punishment.. Besides, what punishment should there be? If they made any kind of negative effect happen when you died, they would have to completely rethink and re-balance the entire game, and I'm not 100% sure that would be a good thing.

Overall, I am happy with the game. It won't be the best game I play this year, but it will be one of my favorites when all is said and done.

Ani - my internet has been teh fucked all weekend hence me not being online, but it's fine now and I'll be on this evening if you want to try some co-op. My berserker is level 30 now, I'm on my second playthrough, about 1/3 of the way through the ice forest.

You equipment durability takes a hit. It isn't huge but die 10 times or so and your stuff is useless. (I don't think it breaks though).

There are acheivements to complete levels without dying.

I don't think that the repetition in this game will get too boring too fast. Each of the different classes plays much differently, especially once you start getting into the skill trees, so right there alone you have a fair amount of variety, and playing them multiplayer just adds another level of depth to it.

I took my time going through the campaign.. I can't say for sure how much time I've spent, cause some of the time I have in my total hours played is from just letting the game sit for hours while I did other stuff. I'd say I probably spent about 15 hours on it my first time through.

It's funny, I checked out the forums at toohuman.net to see what other people had to say about the berserker class, skill trees, etc. People are talking about beating levels only dying once or not dying at all.. I've died probably 75 times so far on the Ice Forest this time through and I'm not quite to the boss yet.. I just don't see how there could be that big of a gap in how I play to how others do.. It's kinda frustrating me, tbh.

I played about 3 hours last night and have not even come close to dieing yet. I'm playing the tank class. In the demo, I died twice I think as the default class. Zerker's lack of health was a big turn off for me! I just figured as a tank, I can do 2 Handed DPS or go sword and board when required. It's working out well so far IMO.

After the tank, I'll probably try the bioengineer next if I still like it after one play through.

I played all the classes to level 10 as part of the "Jack of all Trades" acheivement.

All the classes have a lot of flavour to them. All of the classes stood out in my mind in some respect except the for Bio Engineer (which is ironic considering that it was the class I finished the game with originally).

Zerker is just so awesome once your combo meter hits 50 or so and he starts speeding up the higher it gets. I had it at around 150 or so and the action started blurring on the screen and it was getting hard to follow the action.

The Champ was very cool as well cause that dude hits HARD. Doing air attacks with him was nasty as well.

The Defender was an absolute tank. Sure the damage is somewhat low but I never dipped below 75% health getting to L10.

The Commando was really cool. The gun is so much more effective and the grenade reload speed is so much faster. Seeing all those goblins fly and die after one grenade is awesome. I've cleared rooms faster with the Commando than any other class.

Sooo much fun all around.

Yeah I planned on doing the same for that achievement at some point, plus just to see what other classes are like. I think a berzerker (especially once I learn how to play one better, lol) and a tank would be such a badass combo it wouldn't even be funny..

It would probably also be the easiest way to get the achievements for beating the levels without dying :)

As long as you stacked the Defender with the +Aggressive gear and the Zerker with +Soothing. I'm just not sure if the + stuff applies when the mob is hit or if it's a passive effect.

the one think I thought was really cool with the Defender was the skill path that had the spider acting as a lazer turret. That think mowed down baddies like nobody's business.

On my Commando, I have the one where the spider is a mine. If I'm coming up on a room with a lot of baddies, I lay the mine down close to me and start shooting at the ones that run at me. Any closter that gets to the mine get taken out is a spectacular fashion. I'm tempted to try out the skill tree with the Battlecry that gives your bullets knockdown abilities.

Interesting. How about this, the spider things in the Ice Forest.. How the fuck are you supposed to kill them efficiently? Shooting them with my rifle seems to do almost nothing, and when I get into melee range, they do that thing where they slam the ground, which you can't avoid by jumping which is retarded.. But that slam kills me in two hits, wtf am I supposed to do, lol? I just don't see any other way to deal with the situation other than running around shooting them for 20 minutes.

I've decided that the spider things are obviously a product of shitty game design. There shouldn't ever be a mob that can kill me in two hits, which I can't dodge or get away from at all.

Edit; Ok.. I have died fighting this one spider and group of dark elves probably 25 times... This degree of imbalance is unacceptable and I really do hope they take care of it in the second and third games..

You really are funny in a kind of obnoxious way. I would be willing to bet I could beat you (and probably the bulk of this board) at any game that has been released to date for the 360. Nice try though, you keep clinging onto the WoW PVP comment forever like the pathetic little fuck you always have been.

You and miir should probably fuck, I think you were made for each other. EDIT: Thinking back, you were the best at making snowflakes with that site someone linked here! That probably falls into the same skillset as baking cookies, doing the dishes, and taking it up the ass. You should be proud!

Back on topic, I just cleared out the ice forest boss and didn't die on him once.. , I get gang raped by the spider thing but can beat the boss almost flawlessly.

He's also a pretty kickass artist from what I remember... I wish we saw more of those skills in addition to snarky one-liners.

you basically asked for that one, though. :)

i just like pushing your buttons- pretty much question your manliness to any degree and kick back as the insecure homophobe springs out of the box to make a fool of himself.

The spider thing atack you can dodge by rolling. Jukmping doesn't do anything cause apparently the AOE on that is a dome around the spider. Rolling negates the attack completely.

My commando mows through these with ranged attacks very effectively.

There seem to be a mob designed to be impossibly hard for every class in the game to make the "Complete this level without dying" especially hard.

Gotcha, that makes perfect sense!

I have noticed that if I am able to keep some distance from one and shoot at it without getting pwned by dark elves, that my rifle can bring it's shield down pretty quick, then I can melee them down damn fast, now that I know to roll :) I tried damn near everything I could think of besides rolling, lol!

Wow, I just had a big lucky streak.. I got three elite (red) drops in a few minutes, pistols, a helmet and swords! I made the swords already but I don't have the moneys to craft the other two yet! The other two might not be a huge upgrade by the time I can afford them, but the swords are double the damage of the best one I had prior to this!

I am surprised, cause from what I've read coming across elite items isn't exactly common, and I don't tend to have luck when it comes to loot :)
