RSS/Newsreader for Mac

Winnow, I was talking to a 'Mac guy' about your problems with finding a good newsreader and he recommended you check out NetNewsWire.

I didn't go into great detail about your specific needs, so it might not be a good fit. Hopefully it works out for you.

Well if you want an absolutely fantastic RSS reader, I can't say enough good things about the Google Reader (http://reader.google.com).

For newsgroups however I can't help you there.

Firefox works fine for RSS. I have the feeds I want in the menu bar.

Newsleecher works fine in virtual vista mode on the Mac. The reason I liked Unison is because of it's unique way of handling images in folders graphically while online, allowing you to browse though them easily without downloading them.

I never understood the attraction of RSS feeds and wtf you'd actually fire up a client to get them... don't web browsers get you the same value?

I have one on my Vista sidebar, and another on my iPod Touch. It consolidates headlines and brief blurbs about each story without having to actually navigate to 5+ different sites that I may not find anything I am interested in reading.

I used to feel the same as you. Sometimes I still do to a certain degree. Best usage example I can give you is this...

Lets say you read 11 different blogs that are all updated regularly as a whole, but infrequently on an individual basis (Scott Jennings (Lum the Mad's) brokentoys.org is a good example). If you subscribe to the RSS feed for all eleven, you'll have a single spot that will alert you when there's a new article on any of them without you having to constantly visit each site to see if there's an update. Most all of them give you a nice page view, and you can click through to go to the actual site.

The main thing I use Google reader for now is the weekly Marvel comics release updates. I've used it in the past for Penny-Arcade and Ben's Bargains specials, but I found they were updated consistently and too frequently to be suitable for an RSS feed.

RSS feed built into Firefox works great. I just want to see the headline so clicking on the button in the toolbar for the feed will give a drop down list of the headlines for that particular RSS feed (digg headlines for example). If it looks interesting, I select it and it opens into it's own tabbed window.

I've covered this quite a bit but using Tab Mix Plus add-on with Firefox which lets you set everything to open into a new tab is a must for me. Anything I type into the search field, URL field, bookmarks, history, all open into a new tab. It's all customizable.

On top of that, Super DragAndGo lets you drag any image save it to a specific folder on your hard drive or drag any URL on a page and open it in a new window instead of the current window since I don't necessarily want a link on a page to open in a new tab all the time, it's a great supplement to Tab Mix Plus.
