Re: Um, I want one pls
It's a bit too deep for my liking. And the resolution (2880x900) isn't too thrilling either.
Just my initial thoughts. I'm sure in person it's nice.

Yeah I'm not as shocked about this... I don't think it's a super mega accomplishment to have a curved monitor in the plasma age, and 900 height is uber gay. It's actually 3 or 4 monitors instead of 1... I'm no engineer, but it doesn't make sense to me for anything but novelty. One monitor element goes bad and the whole thing is junk.

True, it would just be nice to have for gaming if you had money to piss away, like some people coughwinnowcoughcough.Fash wrote:Yeah I'm not as shocked about this... Not really. Niche gaming hardware is never useful unless the developers are coding for it. This monitor would actually be better for work related stuff than for gaming. Unless they get some market penetration and LOTS of game devs start supporting it. Also, lets not forget that for a true 3D app, you're going to have to have one hell of a GPU engine to render all those pixels.Funkmasterr wrote:True, it would just be nice to have for gaming if you had money to piss away, like some people coughwinnowcoughcough.Fash wrote:Yeah I'm not as shocked about this... The best recent example I can think of is the Aegia Physx card. The first game to make use of it was GRAW2, but for quite a while, that was the only game. Ubisoft is the biggest publisher to support it, and they're slowly signing additional developers to use their technology. Maybe it will catch on... more likely it will end up as an additional processor on a video card or Motherboard, but do you want to roll out and drop $150 on a card that you can only make use of in a handful of games?
Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.

Re: Um, I want one pls
they can get rid of the seams maybe, but not the angles... it just doesnt seem like the best bet to me.
plus.. its Alienware... this thing will probably cost 7 billion dollars

Yeah I am curious to see what they charge for it, 7 billion might be a bit high... I was thinking more like 6.5 billion

Re: Um, I want one pls
It is certainly a neat concept. Perhaps future generations of it with backing of like Samsung or whatnot will be better. 900 pixels is like 3 apples high.

Re: Um, I want one pls
The visible seams would bother me.
Having used multiple monitors for a long time, I'd rather keep them separate. I used to have my two monitors both landscape and as close together as possible but now my second monitor stays in portrait. I've found having a second monitor in portrait has been the most useful for me which wouldn't be possible with that curved thing.
Viewing comics, pdfs, images, etc in portrait mode on a 24" 1600x1920 is a beautiful thing.

As stated in the article the seams wouldn't be visible in the final retail units. Or so they say.
