Joe Gibbs to Resign

Post by Tyek »

ESPN is reporting Joe Gibbs to resign.

The game seemed to pass him by. He rode an emotional wave to the playoffs, but they have done nothing special the last several years. Will be interesting to see if Snyder goes with a big name or gives Greg Williams his shot.
When I was younger, I used to think that the world was doing it to me and that the world owes me some thing…When you're a teeny bopper, that's what you think. I'm 40 now, I don't think that anymore, because I found out it doesn't f--king work. One has to go through that. For the people who even bother to go through that, most assholes just accept what it is anyway and get on with it." - John Lennon

It should be Gregg Williams, as he would be the only replacement that would have the full support of the players. I'm sure Snyder will try and throw a pile of money at Bill Cowher, though hopefully he says no.

Even though he was a little under .500 in his second run at head coach, he get to the playoffs twice. I don't think the second time around has really hurt his reputation. Winning three Super Bowls with three different QBs is an amazing accomplishment that no one else has came close to.

I sad to see him leave for a second time now. I've been a long time Skins fan. He did us justice for four years. He's leaving us with a better team than we had four years ago. I'll take Pete Caroll, I guess :) Just teasing. Probably Greg Williams will be the coach.

I don't see Pete Carroll ever leaving USC. He has it too good there. I for one would much rather coach at teh college level than the pro level. Lot less stress and a lot more control.

USC can keep Pete Carroll. Why any Redskin fan would want to test him out after Stever Spurrier is beyond me. Spurrier, when he left Florida to come coach the Redskins had a record of 122-27-1, and that was coaching a team in the SEC (quite arguably the toughest conference in college football).

ESPN is reporting though that Pete Carroll is interested in the Atlanta job and talking to Arthur Blank via phone today. I don't know if this is just a courtesy call because Blank is interested in hiring him or if he legitimately is interested in taking over there.

Either way, I'm pretty much sold on giving Gregg Williams a shot as the Washington head coach. They need a few players but overall the coaching staff and personnel already in place here is pretty good. They managed to slide into the playoffs with one of the most injury depleted rosters in the league by far.

I liked Spurrier. I hate how we continue to keep switching coaches every 2-3 years. I believe he would have been very sucessful if given 8 years to fine tune his style into the pro game. I'm a patient fan, not a fanatic.

Apparently Jim Schwartz (Titans Defensive Coordinator) is now the lead candidate for the Redskins head coaching job. He interviewed for the job today and...
A league source says that Schwartz interviewed Thursday with Washington in “blew them away.”

Gregg Williams and Al Saunders have both been fired.

New Defensive Coordinator is Greg Blache and new Offensive Coordinator is Jim Zorn.

No new Head Coach yet. While I think both coordinators are very well qualified, it's a bit odd to hire both without a head coach.
