Washington - Redskins D can handle anything the Chickenhawks can muster
NY Giants - agree its a tough call but if Eli shows up, the Giants do it
Jacksonville - another tough call but Pittsburgh seems to lack the fire
San Diego - easiest pick of the bunch, esp if Young is on the limp again

Seattle - Washington's secondary will be exposed bigtime.
Tampa Bay - The Giants blew their wad last week.
Pittsburgh - No way Jacksonville wins twice this season in Pittsburgh.
Tennessee - Young doesn't play, and Kerry Collins somehow leads another mediocre team to victory in the playoffs (although not to the Super Bowl like he did with the Giants... how'd that 2000/2001 team ever make it that far?)

Blasphemy!Animale wrote:Seattle - Washington's secondary will be exposed bigtime.

Seattle is pretty one-dimensional. I don't think they've had a 100 yard rusher since week 3 (I think they *barely* averaged 100 yards a game rushing as a team). That's pretty weak considering they are in arguably one of the softest divisions in the NFL. If they can't get something going on the ground then the Redskins can drop more people into coverage. The Redskin defense thrives on one-dimensional offenses.
It should be a close game, but I just don't see Seattle exposing the secondary. They aren't the Patriots, and they don't have a rushing attack like Dallas. The Redskins have shut down most of the high powered passing attacks they've played this year (especially those with no running game) .

The Jacksonville Pittsburgh game was great. Sorry to see my Steelers lose, but they went down fighting.

Without Parker, I thought they would have fared much worse. They put up a good showing though. Once the offense is one dimensional, picks and sacks can be expected.

Re: NFL 2007 Playoff Predictions - Wild Card Weekend
I thought it was closer than it should have been. Big Ben threw three picks but it easily could have been five and Hines Ward's blatant face mask/holding in the end zone resulted in the Steelers getting a TD instead of losing the ball to the Jags. Not calling Hines Ward on that facemask/hold was a horrible non call.Canelek wrote:Without Parker, I thought they would have fared much worse. They put up a good showing though. Anyways, what is that, 3 or 4 straight wins by Jacksonville over the Steelers? The better team won. Jack Del Rio is definitely the better coach. I also don't see why people like Roethlisberger so much. OK, he's a big QB. What else?

Re: NFL 2007 Playoff Predictions - Wild Card Weekend
Well, Rothlesberger needs a strong running game. He is a good QB, but certainly not good enough to do it all himself. Also, he is still pretty young. I think Jax overall was a better team this season, regardless. Most people high on Ben are fans of the team, which is understandable, but quite subjective!
You can discuss the merits of Cards teams while I can do the same for Broncos teams. Doesn't mean a thing though, as fans of particular teams are often not so objective.

Re: NFL 2007 Playoff Predictions - Wild Card Weekend
They HAVE to get an offensive line capable of pass protecting. Watch the New England-Jax game and take note of how long Brady has to throw and then compare that to Ben. You either take the sacks, throw the ball up for grabs, or throw it in the stands. This weekend he threw some up for grabs. Just another disgusting lack of effort by a pathetic front 5. When Ben has time he is a great QB....but lack of time to even take a 5 step drop makes any QB look poor.

Re: NFL 2007 Playoff Predictions - Divisional Games
Well after going 3-1 I'm feeling pretty good about my psychic powars...
Green Bay will beat up the Seahawks. Good offense + decent defense > good defense + no offense
Patriots will take out the Jags. Been a nice run for the Jags this year with Garrard but they're facing the Beast when its coming off the rest and recovery of a bye...
Banged up Colts will take out the Chargers. The Colts are hurting but they're still better than an inconsistent Charger team (sorry Adelrune).
Cowboys will take the Giants. In my mind, this is the toughest call. The Giants are gelling at the right time and the Cowboys have been a little out of it. I hate to say it but this game could spin on TO: if he's healthy the Cowboys have too many weapons for the Giants to contain. If he's not this could be the upset

Seattle - Favre will be injured on the first drive, Rogers on the third - ouch.
Patriots - Ben Watson catches 10 balls for 120 yds and 3 TD's.
Colts - Addai puts up an LT-like line - 110 rushing, 110 passing, 1 TD in each.
Cowboys - "Bad Eli" puts in a game long appearance - 4 INT.

Re: NFL 2007 Playoff Predictions - Divisional Games
Well looks like I'm 2-2 for this weekend so I'll say I'm 5-3 for the playoffs since it sounds better
Not surprised by Saturday except Jacksonville kept it tighter than I thought it would be. Thought it was nice of Green Bay to spot the Shithawks the 2 TDs before pummeling em
San Diego stunned me: I thought the Colts deserved better but you have to make plays and they didn't do it. The Giants, I picked em to lose butI'm not surprised they pulled out the win with the way the momentum had been for both teams. Eli's numbers weren't great but I agree with Howie Long that he did a good job (again) in managing his team, taking what the other defense gave him and not making mistakes.
Next week:
AFC - the Perfect Forces of Darkness will pummel San Diego, whether Tomlinson and that yappy bitch Rivers are in or not
NFC - two rolling teams collide but Green Bay has more depth behind their momentum. Sorry Giants, its been a fun ride but its over.

Re: NFL 2007 Playoff Predictions - Divisional Games
Thoughts:
* Hopefully the comparisons between Favre and Romo will end once and for all, but I won't hold my breath.
* I'm really happy for Eli. I think between Shockey being an asshole and NY Giant fan being assholes, he's not really been given the benefit of the doubt and the expectations placed on him have been unreasonable. I think he will eventually be a great quarterback and games like today will give him the experience to get there.
* Phillip Rivers might be a winner, but he has no class going toward the stands and jawing with the fans at the end of the Indy game. He needs to grow the fuck up.
* Nothing would make me happier than seeing Favre/GB win the Super Bowl this year. I think they're a great, great team and in any other year I'd have trouble picking against them. My heart wants them to win, but my head tells me that no one is getting by the Pats this year. Brady is simply amazing. At this point, I'd have to say he's the greatest quarterback in my lifetime. Montana would be a close second (the NFL network commercials with him as the short-order-cook were hilarious), but Brady just looks infallible, methodical, prudent and unshakable every time he touches the ball.

While I am a Giants fan and may think I'm an asshole, the people who have season tickets for the Giants are pretty old school fans. We're certainly not eagles fans or even jets fans. I've seen a lot of games in person and the Giants fans are a pretty courteous bunch in there.noel wrote: * I'm really happy for Eli. To be honest, the assholes tend to be the guys on the field. Strahan, Shockey, Burress, Jacobs, etc. are all tough guys to root for. Eli and the word personality have never met each other and Coughlin is an annoying coach to listen to speak. But Giants fans always stick with them. Everyone came even when they sucked. The season tickets are in their holder's wills.
I really hope they win next week. It would be pretty cool to see a rematch w/ the Patriots in the super bowl

Re: NFL 2007 Playoff Predictions - Divisional Games
I don't think that was an indictment of you personally, or every single Giants fan. The perception I have (basedon everything I've read/seen in the media) is that the Giants fans think Eli Manning sucks, and they aren't willing to wait for him to get better. I think that's a mistake. Eli is young. Given time, I expect him to be really good. That's the point I was making.Chidoro wrote:While I am a Giants fan and may think I'm an asshole, the people who have season tickets for the Giants are pretty old school fans. Re: NFL 2007 Playoff Predictions - Divisional Games
I disagree. Brady is certainly good, but his supporting cast is pretty amazing, which is why he has put up some retardedly good numbers. Spygate aside (which I still think the penalties were far too lenient), the pats front office is crazy good at getting people in there under the cap with promises of superbowl rings. If you put Brady on a team with normal offensive depth, however, I think he would not be a best of all time kind of QB. I reserve that kind of talk for QBs who win with shit rosters around them, like Montanna, Elway, Manning, and possibly Favre (especially earlier in their careers) who got it done with minimal help. The patriots may have the best offense of all time, however.noel wrote: * Nothing would make me happier than seeing Favre/GB win the Super Bowl this year.
The only thought I would add to your post is that I was amazed at how much help the refs were trying to help Indy and Dallas in their games. I expect that kind of crap in Dallas, given the kind of man Jones is, but the blatant crap officiating in Indy really suprised me; and I was rooting for Indy to win.
Anyhow, nice to see the Giants win so we get at least one more clean game this season before we have to play the dirtiest team in Pro Football history in the Superblowout.
War is an option whose time has passed. Peace is the only option for the future. At present we occupy a treacherous no-man's-land between peace and war, a time of growing fear that our military might has expanded beyond our capacity to control it and our political differences widened beyond our ability to bridge them. . . .

Eli has had two problems playing in this area, he is always compared to Ben because he could have been taken w/out the extra draft picks. 2nd, you could never tell if he won or lost because he never showed a hint of emotion.
Fans that think they shouldn't wait him out deserve to be on the hate list because he can play the game. QB probably the highest learning curve position in all of sports.

What? Brady replaced an injured Bledsoe and immediately the Patriots became a dynasty. Supporting cast? I think Brady's 3 rings that he had before he ever had a receiver like Jerry Rice or any of the Colts' receivers (and let's not even bring running backs into the discussion) speak to his ability to get the job done with less talent than the people you mention.Jice Virago wrote:I disagree. His supporting cast is much better this year, and that has added to his gaudy numbers this season. But he was winning Superbowls before this year, and is absolutely one of the greatest QBs of all time. A few rings and a couple Superbowl MVP trophies before this season had already solidified that. Now he's making a run at best ever.
