My wife just got a new job!

Post by Fairweather Pure »

As of last Friday, my wife just switched jobs. She was the Director of Student Financial Aid at a local private collage, but was offered a position on the lender side. She's now the State Representative for Charter One in Michigan.

She'll now work from home, but will be traveling within Michigan 3-4 days a week. She was issued a Blackberry, laptop, allowence to set up a home office, and a company credit card. She more than doubled her yearly salary, and that's just base pay. They have an assload of incentives. They will pay for our internet. Her benefits package reads like nothing I have ever seen or heard of in my life. Seriously, they are fucking incredible. I work at a hospital and her benefit package is on a whole other planet. In short, my wife and her job will take our family to a whole new place.

We've always been very comfortable. I mean, we both make good money and all that. But this new change is so much more money that it's almost scary. We're both still reeling from the fact she was offered the job and starts Jan 7th. Her first paycheck will pay off our 2 recent large purchases (TV and bed), and still have enough to make all our monthly payments from a single check. We still have another 1 of hers and 2 of mine coming. Insane I tell ya. Insane. We also have taxes coming up, and the mere thought of each of us geting 3 checks in the same month? Fuck me!

This is far from a bragging post, since I figure most of the people on here make pretty nice livings anyway. I just had to share our good news with my Internet friends. Life is full of turning points in life. This is one of ours.

EDIT: It's Charter One, not Bank One!

Welcome to the JPMC family. Congratulations. I wish my wife worked.

I'm worried that you're impressed by our benefits, which have gotten shittier each year.

Gratz Fair,

Sounds like a great xmas. My wife finished nursing school early this year and has started working too. It amazes me that we were able to live off one income for so long now. Don't spend all that new money at once and enjoy. I will tell you that travel gets tiring. I traveled 3 days a week for 9 years and it wears you out.
When I was younger, I used to think that the world was doing it to me and that the world owes me some thing…When you're a teeny bopper, that's what you think. I'm 40 now, I don't think that anymore, because I found out it doesn't f--king work. One has to go through that. For the people who even bother to go through that, most assholes just accept what it is anyway and get on with it." - John Lennon

I edited my original post. Sorry, at least they sounded similar!

No one in thier right mind would consider those benefits anything less than amazing. Your post made me call my wife and double check her company name, lol.

Anyway, thanks for the gratz. I'm with Nick in that I like to see other people's accomplishments. It's always nice to see my peer group grow up and be successful.

Congrats.

Here is the best advice I can give you. Calculate precisely how much per month your income has gone up, and setup a direct deposit to move every penny to savings before you notice it and spend any of it on things that you don't need.

I would feel like I was in "Brewster's Millions" trying to spend all that. I don't even want that much stuff. I'm already pretty damn spoiled. I can't think of a single thing to buy that I don't already own. Saving the money isn't just the best option, it's pretty much our only option.

I'm very happy for you! I love the fact that my wife makes at least 10k more than me and is still on the rise. In the midwest 10k is a big deal. We live a very nice life and mostly within our means. That doesn't mean that I don't want my wife to make it to Manager or Partner someday. I'm all about my comfort level. :D
