The University of Delaware defeated the No. 1-ranked and previously unbeaten University of Northern Iowa 39-27 Saturday in Cedar Falls, Iowa, in the second round of the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision playoffs.
Being a native i can only enjoy every minute of this year. I got to meet Omar Cuff at Iron Hill Brewery earlier this year and told him how much i enjoyed running as him in NCAA for my PS2! It has been an exciting year, and we're moving onto the semi-finals baby!

Grats on your team's win Gonzoie!
Is Michigan still alive in that tourney?
If Delaware keeps this up, UM will have to consider putting them on their schedule or at least steal their coach since the LSU coach turned down the job!
Arizona State got robbed and should be playing for the national championship. Congratulations on your one win vs. a ranked opponent, even if said opponent ended the season with 6 losses. I am humbled by your greatness.

That the Big Ten (11) got two teams in the BCS is a travesty. They should have just had Hawaii or the 1-AA champion play USC in the Rose Bowl to save the Big Ten from yet another Rose Bowl loss and make the game entertaining.
USC has a pretty impressive resume too, this year. The ranked teams that they beat include 7-loss Nebraska and 6-loss Cal, not to mention that super-tough Arizona State squad whose only ranked win was vs. 6-loss Cal. Let's not forget about the greatest upset in the history of sports, when Stanford beat the Trojans!
USC could perhaps beat Illinois in the home game that they'll play against them in January, but I'm not sure that the Pac 10 deserves even 1 team in the BCS. Too bad Dixon got hurt, Oregon would have deserved to be in the BCS.

USC's credentials can't be questioned. They have a get-into-bowl-game-free card like those two "THE Rivalry" schools.
To be fair, college football rankings are a joke for all conferences involved. Besides the greed that prevents it, all I see are people making excellent cases for a playoff system each year with no progress in actually getting one. The BCS didn't solve anything.

Despite rapidly falling ratings, NBC/Irish to renew contract
For 13 years, every Notre Dame football home game has appeared on NBC. And thanks to a five-year extension announced Dec. 18, that trend will continue at least through 2010.
Although University and NBC officials declined to say how much the school will receive annually, various news agencies reported the deal is worth $9 million annually.
The Big Ten is getting a new team before next season. It won't be ND (thank god), and won't be a team from Pennsylvania, as the douchebag head of Big Ten said it would be in another state altogether. My money is on WVU defecting. After all the shit we took this year critically, we will be looking for a new team to boost our reputation. I do wonder what we will call our conference though.

Was before the season. I also remember reading something a bit more concrete, but that's all I found at a quick search. (READ: top 3 entries on google)

It's going to either be Appalachian State or Wofford College.
I've heard a few rumors, here and there, about the Big Ten adding a new team.
I think that Notre Dame is the obvious choice and the only one that really makes sense. I mean... the Big Ten is a midwest conference. Penn State already feels a bit out of place. Notre Dame fits right in geographically, is an independent school, has pre-existing rivalries with Michigan and Penn State, and their games have the classic Big Ten feeling, they're monster events in the middle of midwestern wilderness. They're incredibly popular and draw lots of attention and great TV ratings. They should be the one.
Of course, that probably won't happen. So who's left?
You've got to think that it's unlikely that the Big Ten will be able to poach a team from any conference other than the Big East (so I'm ruling out other teams that sort of fit in geographically, like Iowa State or maybe another northern Big 12 team).
Seems like there's basically three options in the Big East: Pitt, WVU, and Rutgers.
Pitt seems like the most logical school. They're close to being in the Big Ten's geography. They have lots of football history, including a national championship and some NFL hall of famers. They could rekindle their dormant rivalry with Penn State. The Big Ten could add a powerful basketball program. This won't happen, though, for one simple reason: It's not a popular enough program. The Pittsburgh TV market is not big enough to be worth a whole lot, and Penn State's already got the rest of Pennsylvania covered. When Pitt's on the road, no-one goes to see them, and while they play in a monster stadium, it's never full for their home games.
WVU also seems fairly logical. There's some geographical sense there, and the school has a fair amount of football tradition-- they've never won a national championship, but they have been in contention in a few different eras, and they've won an awful lot of games. The students and fans are passionate, they fill the stadiums and make home games into big experiences. After producing some real winners like Pac Man Jones and Chris Henry, WVU seems to have started recruiting better kids, and they've got a pretty decent basketball program too. One major problem: WVU adds virtually nothing in terms of money production and TV market. Who the fuck cares about the West Virginia TV market? Secondary problem: WVU is not known for its stringent academic standards. I don't know how much the Big Ten actually cares, but I've heard some Big Ten fans squawk up and down about the academic quality of their schools.
Rutgers makes no god damn sense. Geographical rationale? None. They're in New Jersey. Strong history for the program? Nope It's Rutgers. Natural or historical rivalries with other Big Ten schools? Zero. Bringing in a good basketball program too? Not particularly. Oversized stadium in the middle of nowhere which fills up with rabid fans? Nope. But Rutgers is going to be the choice, for one reason and one reason only: New York. Rutgers is the closest thing that NYC has to a college team. The Big Ten wants to expand for money and money only. Improve the quality of the league's football? Fuck that. Add a team which fits, historically and for the future? Not a concern. Add to the Big Ten's national reputation? Nope. But if you're a recently above-average program with one breakout year who makes no sense whatsoever but can add the New York market to the list of those who don't want the Big Ten network... fuck yeah, bring 'em on!
It's going to be Rutgers. If it's not Rutgers, the Big Ten is going to hunker down and wait for Notre Dame to join. That's it. Bottom line. It will not be Pitt, it will not be WVU, it will not be Cincinnati. It's Rutgers or Notre Dame or nothing.
The commissioner of the Big Ten said it would be a new state to join. So that is either Kentucky, WV, or NJ. ND is out since we have Purdue and Indiana already.
That is code for "adding a major TV presence that will bring in lots of money." WV is not that. I doubt Kentucky is that. New Jersey definitely is that. So is Notre Dame. Jim Delaney will shit all over that statement in a second if Notre Dame is willing to join.
Something about WVU joining gives me the shivers. Having them and Penn State in the same conference could be scary. I remember growing up and hearing all about how nasty that rivalry could be from an old WVU grad and manager of off-campus dorms.
