American Gangster

Post by Funkmasterr »

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm really excited for this movie - it looks like it will be great!

I am also excited for the "American Gangster" cd Jay Z is releasing! That's beside the point though..

I'll be going to see this opening weekend for sure!

I thought this movie was about 40 minutes too long.

7.5/10

That sounds eerily like my Jackie Brown review. ><

I really liked this movie, and didn't feel it was too long at all. I'm a sucker for crime/cop dramas though, and this one definitely didn't disappoint. I'd probably rank it closer to a 9/10.

There were a lot of rappers (and a person or two from The Wire) in it. Common, T.I., RZA, Fab 5 Freddy, don't know who else I saw.

Was T.I. going to prison during the movie? Or maybe I'm confused with current events. I'm sure he was involved on the side of the gangsters, in either time.

This was a solid memorable film. I think Aslanna's 7/10 is too low. The whole point was that it was meant to be a sort of pastiche of 70's made for tv movies, except better. Which it was.

Id give it an 8.5 and I'm only marking it down for the fact that films about real criminals are sort of boring.

However, seeing an on form Denzel Washington face off against an equally on form Russell Crowe (who is fucking great) was a real treat, that alone made it better than 99% of the films that have come out in the last 2 years.

I gave it a 7.5 not a 7.0! I just thought it could have had some stuff cut out as (I felt) it was too long.

oops :O

Oh well, still!

I didn't think it was too long, but I could see my partner getting a bit yawny (but shes not really into films sadly :() so I guess that's a realistic enough assessment.

Personally I thought the last 30 minutes or so were what made it. Maybe they could have cut out a bit before that, but for me the length of it was never an issue.

Were you surprised?

I thought this was a great movie. It gives people a little look into the lives of the two men behind the heroin rush back then. They were both smart, cold, calculating fuckers and pretty much ran NYC for a while.

.
No. But, the continual glorification and sympathy we give the criminals in our society upsets me so, each and every time.

My dismay has nothing to do with the movie. My comments were more global...bigger scope or picture, if you will. Hehe If you watch the clip I linked in my original post, you will see where it all started, Nick.

This is the definition of irony.
When I was younger, I used to think that the world was doing it to me and that the world owes me some thing…When you're a teeny bopper, that's what you think. I'm 40 now, I don't think that anymore, because I found out it doesn't f--king work. One has to go through that. For the people who even bother to go through that, most assholes just accept what it is anyway and get on with it." - John Lennon
