I went to this today - I really enjoyed the sublime nature of this film. This stars Brad Pitt (Jesse James), Casey Affleck (Robert Ford), Sam Rockwell (Charlie Ford), Sam Shepard (Frank James), and from Deadwood/John From Cincinnati - Garret Dillahunt (Ed).
This is a long movie at 2 hours and 40 minutes - and it is certainly not a typical western - it is more of an introspective, art-house movie - it is beautifully filmed and well acted. Brad Pitt's performance is a bit wooden - nothing great at all. It is really Casey Affleck's film - what an amazing job this kid does - and Sam Rockwell as his older, dimwitted brother is great as well.
The story moves slow - but not too slow. I am a sucker for westerns - and even though this isn't a shoot 'em up film - it does a great job telling the factual story of what happened to Jesse James - and dare I say that this movie could have been called "The Coward Robert Ford" as he really is the central character study in this film.
