Pushing Daisies
I watched the first episode tonight. I went in knowing nothing about it (one of the advantages of not watching normal TV and being subjected to a bazillion commercials). I just saw it in a newsgroup and decided to give it a shot. Glad I did. I liked the first episode. It was sad, touching and surprisingly funny at times. For those who liked 'Charlie' from Heroes she's a regular in this from what I can tell.
Not sure this really needs a spoiler as I saw it mentioned in reviews and it's also in the first 5 minutes of the show but just in case...
Anyway... Hopefully future episodes will be just as good and I'll be checking them out. It's averaging 86 on Metacritic so give it a shot if you haven't already.
(Oh and just want to add... It has pies.)

Re: Pushing Daisies
I just saw it tonight and loved it. I also didn't really look into the show, I just saw the list of new shows, set them for Tivo to check them out. But it didn't take me long to realize who could have created this who. For those that don't know, it's Bryan Fuller, which besides his work on Heroes, he created Dead Like Me.

Re: Pushing Daisies
Oh I was wrong. 'Charlie' from Heroes wont be a regular. Still a good show (so far). Surprised nobody else has commented. Watch it this Wednesday!

Re: Pushing Daisies
Seems like it would've made a good X-Flies episode, but I think as a series the concept is a little weak. I liked it, I just don't see much room to change things up.
Re: Pushing Daisies
I watched the first episode last night.
After establishing the characters in the first half, I thought the second half was pretty good. I like the bright colors in the show.
If "Charlie" is the main character's GF, it's a bummer she won't be a regular.
Line that cracked me up the most:
I'll be checking out the other episodes soon. Worth a watch. I'm kind of with Fairweather in wondering if there's enough material but we'll see!

Re: Pushing Daisies
I meant the Heroes Charlie and not the Chuck character.
Emerson: Well, who died instead?
Ned: It's sort of a random proximity thing.
Emerson: Bitch, I was in proximity!

I was close! Since you have the quotes down, there was another one where Emerson said something like, "It was so stupidly crazy, I didn't think you'd actually do it" which cracked me up as well.
Emerson is a good sidekick to Ned.

I saw episode 2 last night. I guess they air a day earlier in Canada maybe? It was posted in alt.binaries.multimedia. I didn't think it had as many humorous moments as the first one but it was still decent overall. I'll keep watching it!

Cancelled
Pushing Daisies Lives Up To Its Name
It's the news that we've been hoping we'd never have to share - even though we saw it coming for weeks. Sadly, ABC has canceled Pushing Daisies. The network has made no official announcement about the series' end, relying instead on boilerplate comments that no final decision has been made. But show creator Bryan Fuller has come clean about the show's lack of future... and where we may see Ned, Chuck and everyone else from the Pie Hole next.

Lame. Sad that good shows are unable to stick around yet things like Survivor continue season after season.

Re: Pushing Daisies
Entertainment Weekly said that the finale for season 2 is one hell of a cliff hanger too. Double ouch for fans of this show since there will be no closure.
This is honestly one of the reasons I do not get invested in shows anymore. HBO fucked me over with a cliff hanger and absolutely no closure after 2 seasons of Carnivale and I've never been able to get into any new series since. I also heard that Joss Whendon's thrice cursed Dollhouse show is going to open on Friday night. Fox is fucking him again. That's considered just about the worst goddamn night for television. But hey, that's where Firefly died too
Now all I do is wait for the series to get to DVD. By then, I'm usually able to see if a series has legs and is worth the effort of watching it. It's worked out well with Lost and Heroes. I'm waiting for Battlestar Galactica to wrap as a series before I just buy all of those too, including the movies. I've never seen an episode! I may even do the same with 24 since I've never watched an episode of that either.
I easily would've watched Invasion and that other short lived sci-fi series, but those were yanked so fast I barely knew they were on. So far it looks like Fringe will have legs though, and I may pick that one up when it hits dvd next year.
How about a little salt in the wounds? Knight fucking Rider was renewed for a 2nd season. After retooling the first season based off the pilot, the second season is going through a similar reboot, with most of the characters from season one being dropped, and a new format for the show is being introduced. Knight Rider.

Re: Pushing Daisies
I recently downloaded season 1 and started watching it. (I have a bad habit of never watching shows when they're actually airing and instead do marathons) and I just watched the episode with the scratch and sniff guy. This whole time I kept looking at Aunt Vivian and thinking to myself that I knew her from somewhere and it wasn't until she started singing that I realized that she's Audrey from Little Shop of Horrors. Fucking Awesome. In one episode, they managed to make the 8 year old in me extremely happy by giving me Peewee and Audrey from Little Shop.

Re: Pushing Daisies
Knight Rider has since been cancelled, but 13 episodes were filmed and will see TV time. That didn't take long...
I read that the creator of Pushing Daisies is obsessed with the movie "Amiele". He modeled much of the show's "mood" after the movie. After hearing that, it makes me want to see the show now
(Too bad it's been cancelled!)

Re: Pushing Daisies
Yay Knight Rider being cancelled. There's a small bit of justice in the world afterall. That show was truly bad. However I guess I'd have to rate it just a tad higher than reality TV shows. At least they tried something different. Too bad it wasn't exactly original. And sucked. Making KITT a 'transformer' basically turned it into a live-action cartoon. Whoever came up with that idea was dumb.
