Have any of you that have used Vista ran into issues with wireless printers? My dad has a wireless HP printer, and I have had issue after issue with it.
The first thing that happened was a big storm came through here and the printer would always just show offline, I tried everything I could think of and ended up having to uninstall the software/driver and reinstall it, and go through all the bullshit to get it connected wirelessly (connecting it with a cat6 cable and configuring it before the wireless works.)
Now he just called me today and said after his automatic windows updates ran yesterday the printer just completely disappeared (in printers & faxes it isn't even displayed anymore.) It's not hard to reinstall the printer, it's just time consuming and I'm already sick of doing it. Are there known issues with wireless printers and vista for some reason? If so, I'm going to have him return it and get a regular wired printer so I don't have to troubleshoot the fucking thing once every three weeks.
Thanks for any info in advance.

It's hard to accurately pin this on Vista when you start off your story with "A big storm passed through here the other day...".
That being said, please check out http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/sup ... ay=drivers and see if he has the latest and greatest.

Yeah, the drivers that came in the box were not Vista drivers, so I had to download the latest when I installed it. I realize the storm could have screwed something up, but I just didn't think that it would cause the kind of issue that is occurring, I figured it would've probably just wrecked the printer flat out if anything.

I've had more networks get screwed up from storms than actual devices getting fried.

Permanent damage though? I completely reconfigured everything with the printer after the storm.Boogahz wrote:I've had more networks get screwed up from storms than actual devices getting fried.

Permanent enough that I had to completely replace network cards. I tested the cards that got "blasted" later, and they still did not work. It was not a wireless network though.Funkmasterr wrote:Permanent damage though?
