Do these seem like ok things to buy? Also if the MB says standard ram is ddr2 667 does that mean buying ddr2 800 is useless? Is the E6420 a good processor? Since i'm just getting the MB/CPU/RAM and the drive as an upgrade, do i need anything else that goes with it? I wanted to keep my geforce 7800GS since I got this kinda recently as a replacement for my old 6800gt from XFX as an RMA. any help is appreciated. I forgot to ask if i have a cable modem from 2002 dlink-100 does it matter to upgrade that to something new or are all cable modems the same?

Re: trying to upgrade but I want to keep my agp card...
The 6420 is a sweet cpu.
Probably the most overclock friendly.
I have mine running at 3GHz with no problems whatsoever.
I've had nothing but bad experiences with ASRock motherboards.
I would strongly advise against purchasing their products.
As for the AGP issue...
I would just shitcan AGP altogether.
You can pick up a 8600GT or a HD2600XT for less than $150 and you'd be getting better performance and DX10 support.
You can't go wrong with Kingston RAM... but get PC6400.
For hard drive(s), go with Seagate. Not that there's anything wrong with WD, but Seagate has much better RMA and a better warranty (5 vs 3)

Re: trying to upgrade but I want to keep my agp card...
That's a decent, no nonsense motherboard. Gigabyte is a decent manufacturer.
If you have any interest in overclocking, get the E6420. Otherwise, your choice seems to be good value for the price.
Can't go wrong with an EVGA video card. I don't think I've ever heard anything negative about EVGA.
80 bucks is a fucking steal for that drive. I'd pick up TWO or THREE!
Switch the no-name 'A-DATA' with Kingston for $3 more. I never like to cut corners with RAM.

Re: trying to upgrade but I want to keep my agp card...
I already bought all that stuff and it's en route...I got the ram cause It was on the gigabyte webpage and it was on super special for 70$ after rebate and it had 5 eggs for reviews with over 250 people reviewing. I can only hope the ram turns out ok. I'm pretty hesitant to overclock stuff since I always think I'm going to break stuff heh.

If you're not gonna overclock, I'm sure that RAM will be just fine.Momopi wrote:I already bought all that stuff and it's en route...I got the ram cause It was on the gigabyte webpage and it was on super special for 70$ after rebate and it had 5 eggs for reviews with over 250 people reviewing.
