Tammy Faye Dead

Post by Lalanae »

For many people, Tammy Faye Messner (formerly Bakker) is still a joke, but if anyone has followed her life since the PTL scandal in the 80's, she was actually a pretty cool lady, crazy make-up withstanding. She supported the gay community like no famous Christian has. She was a TRUE Christian, compassionate and unjudgemental, and the world is a sadder place without her. I wish more Christians would follow her philosophy.

I agree.

I saw her interview on Larry King only two days before her death. She only weighed 65 lbs. at the time and she looked so terrible - I knew death was only a matter of days away. She was certainly one of a kind.

Hmm, televangelist?

Is this really a big loss?

(Edit: Yes, she looked horrific in the days running up to her death, an advert for euthanasia if ever there was one - that's not a flame, she looked fucking awful and it was shocking to see anyone look like that, twat or not)

She was probably the only person in her line of work to accept others that were typically shunned beyond just doing "face time" for a cause-of-the-month. It's too bad that most will just see another Christian gone to the grave.

What was wrong with her that made her drop to 65 lbs?

The last I had seen/heard of her she was on the Surreal Life on VH1 or whatever (a couple years ago?) and she looked healthy there.

She hadn't been a televangelist for 20 years. It's the work she did in later years that really showed what a remarkable person she was.

It's kind of hypocritical to bash someone just because they are Christian and then turn around and talk about how judgemental Christians are. I'm an atheist and although I disagree with some things Christians tout, I judge a person for their actions. Tammy Faye was that kind of person. She loved everyone, from transsexuals to Ron Jeremy. Christians need role models like her, so yes, I think this is a big loss.

What's not to love about Ron Jeremy? He had a great career! (unless he's still going at it at 60 and then even better for him)

I can't comment about Tammy Faye's life after what most people remember her for. All I know about are the bad parts of her life as a crying evangelist or evangilist's wife so good for her if she shaped up after that. I recall a story about someone spotting her picking up some booze at a 7/11 back in her righteous days once so she wasn't totally fake even back then and enjoyed getting smashed between donation requests.
