Flight of the Conchords (HBO)

Post by Lalanae »

Eric downloaded the first episode and we watched it today. OMG I laughed almost the entire time it was on. Fucking hilarious! The humor is similar to The Office and the show has a similar mockumentary feel to it. If you like the SNL music vid parodies, you'll LOVE this show.

Agreed! I'm in love with this show. I remember seeing their comedy special on HBO a while back and absolutely loved it. Glad they have their own show now, they both really deserve it. I posted a couple clips from that special in the Audiophilia forum. Here are the same links for ya. Gives an idea of their humor, but the show is even better.

Haha, these guys are great, thanks for pointing em out.

I liked this one. Rhymenocerous vs. Hiphopopotamus.

That song last night that they sang to Bret's girlfriend was pretty funny. Great love song. :)

I watched the first three episodes. It was interesting and had its moments but seems like one of those programs I wouldn't really miss much if I didn't watch it every week.

I've now watched 11 episodes. This show misses a lot more than it hits. I would be surprised if it gets picked up for a second season.

From Wikipedia:
"Second season

On August 17, 2007, HBO announced a second season for Flight of the Conchords, set to premiere in 2008.[5] Prior to the announcement, Jemaine Clement stated in an interview with the The New Zealand Herald, "they [HBO] are interested in doing another series but we have to think about it. It's not a definite offer but they have talked about us starting writing but we've got other things we want to do as well".[6] Bret McKenzie has stated in several interviews that the band has used up "98 percent" of their old songs in the first series. In an interview with The Star Ledger, he said "We'd need some time to develop new material. It's like the second album syndrome. It might take a lot longer".[7] Shortly after the renewal announcement, Clement stated in an interview that the second season would likely consist of fewer than twelve episodes "so they could concentrate on 'quality not quantity'". McKenzie and Clement plan to write for the second season in Wellington, New Zealand before they return to New York City in 2008 for filming."

I actually thought this show was awful at first, and would turn the TV off immediately when Entourage was over. However, Sueven convinced me to give it another shot, so i watched all the episodes last weekend. Having watched it from the beginning definitely helped to understand some of the jokes or entire episodes (I really didn't get the second Sally episode the first time I saw it, and found it hilarious the second). I really enjoy this show now, and I hope they can do as good of a job with the second season.

Well color me surprised then!

I have watched them all in order and just didn't enjoy it overall. Same for other people here at work I have talked to. There are moments I find funny but they are few and far between. And most of the songs lately haven't been funny either. Although the Lord of the Rings one they did in #11 was amusing.

Wife and I tried to watch a couple of these because she said someone at her office recommended it. It was amazingly unfunny. The few I suffered through were an obvious smarmy attempt to reach out to people who think they are funny but are just too much "smarter" than anyone else. So the audience that cares believes that if you don't think they're funny it's because you're too stupid as opposed to just being unfunny.

Welp I'm going to disagree with Chidoro here. I think the shit is absolutely HILARIOUS but I totally understand why some people might not like it.

Come on, pretty prince of parties? It's awesome.

This show is hilarious, these guys are hilarious, and anyone who doesn't agree with me is obviously a nincompoop!

Count me in then. I don't know how anyone could classify this show as "hilarious". Funny at times but definitely not in the hilarity category.

I'd also like to say that the "this show isn't funny and people who think it is funny are elitist pricks" tactic is retarded. You're better than that.

I think this show is awesome. Half the time I think that they pull off what Adam Sandberg (Lazy Sunday guy) tries to do, but even better.

Hit or miss for me as well, but when it's a hit i love it. The manager reminds me of Ricky G in the Office (UK).
