Team Fortress 2

Post by Xanupox »

Anyone remember Team Fortress Classic from 1999? I played the hell out of it till I got into EQ.

Well, after making, scrapping, remaking and scrapping again, I think I heard something from Sierra and Valve finally getting TF2 out soon.

Anyone got any good info on it? Last I saw it was way cartoony. Still though the fast action looked fun.

theyre doing a triple release of Portal, TF2, and HL Episode 2.. mmmm

I love the stylized looks of TF2, and it looks like they stayed mostly true to the original as far as gameplay goes.. including remade maps like 2fort. Most of the diversions from the original are pretty exciting IMO... the medic is probably the most altered class and sounds totally sexy.. theres also shit like spy's being able to cloak and rocket jumping being a bonafide and encouraged ability for soldiers. it'll be great, no doubt

Sorry to bump an old topic, but Valve just released a new TF2 2 trailer: Meet the Scout. I got a good laugh out of it.

I fucking hate scouts and the twitchy little pricks who play them.

I think that the Scout is the one class I have not actually played. I have mainly been a Soldier, Medic, or Engineer.

I play the scout when I feel like dicking around and just having (stupid) fun. I only use the bat or pistol (for taking out sentry guns at long range). If you haven't tried it, you'd be surprised at how easily you can kill people. Only makes things easier when half the people out there will panic and try to run at the sight of a bat-swinging jackass charging at them.

Ever play Team Fortress Classic? It's a game which uses the half life 2 engine, you play 1 of various classes, each with specific skills/weapons. There are multiple game types, all objective based: capture the points, defense/capture points, and others I forget. But as Miir said, it's fun.

You can play as a newbie without fear of embarrasing yourself.
The graphics are heavily stylized and will run with good framerates on lesser systems.
You can play an easy class (Engineer, Soldier, Medic) while you learn the finer points of the game.

It's one of the most newbie friendly online shooters I have ever played.

The old suicidal medic was the best. Hide outside the enemy spawn door, rush in behind someone after they opened it and infect thier AFK people in the spawn room. You die fast in there but due to the contagious infection, as thier team spawned in they would get infected, spread it, die, catch it again, die but spread it again before they died. If the other team had just 1-2 stupid people on it, you could chain kills for minutes straight.

Team Fortress 2 Gold Rush Update Released
Posted by Björn April 29, 2008

Valve has announced the release of the anticipated "Gold Rush Update," which includes the Gold Rush map, payload gameplay style, a new unique item system, and medic achievements. In addition, this upcoming weekend will be a TF2 free weekend, giving everyone a chance to try out the new updates.

"The Gold Rush Update introduces the new Gold Rush map and Payload gameplay style, the first set of unlockable weapons, and a new set of achievements for the Medic.

Valve also announced a worldwide Team Fortress 2 Free Weekend will begin Friday at noon PDT, and will include access to the new content released today in the TF2: Gold Rush Update. Using the functionality made available through Steam and Steamworks, all of the files needed to join the Free Weekend are available for pre-loading now.

"Since Valve released Team Fortress Classic nine years ago this month as a free add-on for Half-Life owners, Valve has continuously looked for new ways to support the players of its online games," said Gabe Newell, president and co-founder of Valve. "Following in that tradition, today owners of all PC versions of Team Fortress 2 will automatically receive a free update containing new gameplay, weapons, and achievements by connecting to Steam, a platform built for gamers and creators of online games."

The Free Weekend is open to players around the world, and there is no obligation to purchase to participate; all that is needed is a Steam account to join.

To start pre-loading everything you need to play on Friday and learn more about Team Fortress 2, please visit http://www.steamgames.com/goldrush"

We should start a steam ID thread. I would gladly play this game with any of you, since all the people i played it with play COD4 now, and I have not bought it because i'm sure the same thing that happened with tf2 will happen when I get COD4 (all my friends decide to try a new FPS). I actually don't even know my steam ID offhand!

Server is up... you can add this to your favorites list:

Not sure if this will attract players... I'll definitely check it whenever I'm looking to play (which is every night, pretty much).

open to map/config suggestions...

I forget the map I played the most, but it was my favorite. There was a lake in the center with a bridge crossing it.

If anyone is still out there playing TF2, I believe my steam id is mp72 so feel free to add me to your list. I'll probably be playing this in my free time for a while, seems pretty fun.
