Marvel's lost its grip

Post by Winnow »

Too many comic movies in the works!

I like comic book movies but some of these don't look too good and a flood like this might ruin the string of decent hero movies we've had recently:

Neither Djimon or Wes Snipes would be a fitting Black Panther.

Only one who could do Black Panther justice would be Michael Jai White

Out o those movies:

Avengers i gotta see, but young Magneto and Wolverine are ho-hum. Never thought Hugh was a good wolverine either, Ray Park would've been better!

Won't see Thor, Punisher 2, Ant-Man or Nick Fury, they're bound to be cheezy as hell.

Sub-Mariner, Cap A and Black Panther may be good depending on the actor.

Ray Parks as Iron Fist is a decent choice (since he is a good martial artist) but i never thought Daniel Rand would be so short! :D

Then again Bruce Banner never looked like he did in the comics.

Arrr, Ant-Man?

Ohh, and ill love to see Daredevil 2, Ben Affleck is such a great actor and the first one was just a wonderfull movie, faithfull to the comic, especially liked how they were not bound by restraining stuff like skin color to make Kingpin black.....Oh wait, that was in some wierd alternate universe. DEATH TO DAREDEVIL!!!!

Talk about the wrong cast, how could they pick Affleck for Daredevil! :D

Was hilarious to see Kingpin as well, guess they couldn't find such a white fella of that size...

Just like when the books were at the height of the popularity, the industry tried to milk it for all they could. Resulting in a massive dilution of the product, and very unhappy fans....to the point that the industry nearly folded.

Fuck history, i couldn't possibly make the same mistakes as someone else!

I'll cut them some slack until the movies actually do start sucking but it's looking a little sketchy.

Ghost Rider is the recent Marvel movie that I've not cared for. I'm fine with all the Spiderman, X-Men movies and am about to watch FF #2 to see if I can add the FF movies to the list because the jury's still out after the first one.

I just want them to be good. An Avengers movie could be awesome but also could be a joke if they don't handle it right.

If you haven't read the recent Irredeemable Ant-Man series, it could change your mind about it having a chance to be good. The original Ant-Man is an interesting character in that he's a womanizer, wife beater, crazy genius that created Ultron which would be a good opponent. Not your typical profile for a hero.

The Ultimates version of Hank Pym getting booted from the Avengers and then screwing Valkerie in the Defenders still cracks me up:

Yeah, there is no guarantee that they will ever get beyond the "hey, what do you think about doing a movie based on a_comic_book03?" stage.

It's in The Ultimates, which is the Marvel Ultimate Universe version of the Avengers. Basically the Ultimate Universe is a reset of the Marvel Universe that provides alternate origins for all of the characters. The pages I posted are misleading as the Defenders in the Ultimate Universe aren't as powerful. Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, etc are all still powerhouses and Captain America is the badass everyone got a glimpse of in the recent Civil War series.

Ultimates Volume One:

http://www.veeshanvault.org/forums/view ... es#p247271

Ultimates Volume Two:

http://www.veeshanvault.org/forums/view ... es#p273642

The first issue of Ultimates deals entirely with Captain America's origins back in WWII so you have to bear with it until issue two to get a better idea of how the comic is. It presents a little more modern version of things. They also all think Thor is possibly insane claiming that he's the son of Oden and from Asgard.

Great Ultimates cover featuring Thor:

If Marvel did an Avengers movie, I'd want it to be set in the Ultimate Universe. They'd have to rate it R though which I doubt they'd do being greedy and all.

I saw Ghost Rider a couple of weeks back and thought they did a real decent job of it.

I really enjoyed it.

Who or What would be the main bad guy for the Avengers? FF already have Dr. Doom and Silver Surfer (Galactus incoming?) and the X-Men have their Magneto and Sentinals. Not sure who the Avengers have to tango with.

Ultron is one of the major bad guys for The Avengers. Hank Pym (Ant-Man/Giant-Man) created him. The Vision is also involved with the whole Ultron saga.

Loki is a trouble spot for the Avengers as well due to Thor being around.

Here's some of the Avengers' villains:

Not many big names. Thanos might be another one good for a movie.

I'm guessing it would be Ultron. Easy to CGI an robot for the movies.

Ultron is definitely a good possibility. Also maybe Kang the Conquerer or Masters of Evil(led by Baron Zemo)? I also think a mass invasion of Kree, etc. could work well for a movie of this scale.

Loki would be cool since he was the reason they assembled in the first place, but I think he'll be used in the Thor movie.

Vision would probablly include something with Wonderman as Vision was created using WM as a template or brain imprints. It has been a long time since I read those. Back when they were $0.15 a copy. I'm still sad I sold all those.

Most interesting would be a villain group (consisting of several different evil minds) such as Masters of Evil.

But for the first Avengers movie they'll prolly use Ultron.

Either Ultron or MoE is good enough for me.

I just wish they could skip Wonderman from this movie. 8)

Just saw the Ghost Rider movie and I considered it average at best. Even that is a stretch. The dialogue was crap and at times I thought Cage was acting like he was reading a teleprompter. Seems the first movie is always kind of shitty though. I don't like Nicholas Cage much though.

The first hulk movie was complete crap and I love the hulk. Hopefully they don't screw it up but I won't pay to watch it after the crap that was the first movie.

I am not a big Ironman fan but Robert Downey Jr is just wrong. The guy is complete fuck nob. I just can't stand him anymore and he will prevent me from probably seeing the movie.

Marvel as usual is flooding themarket with what ever they think is popular. Unfortunatelall the crap they are putting out is only going to hide the actual good shit and ruin it for everyone.

Well, Robert Downey at least know Tony Starks alcohol problems, so he can play a VERY convincing alcoholic. Maybe thats why.

I'm willing to give Robert Downey Jr a chance as Tony Stark.

The note about Samuel S Jackson as Nick Fury is interesting since it appears they are going with the Ultimate Universe version of the Marvel characters (unless they just like to randomly make various characters black due to marketing polls).

A movie based on the Ultimates would be a kick ass movie. The old Avengers were good but they were also a little discombobulated compared to the nice integration of characters that is taking place with the Ultimates.

I doubt it's a "random black guy" switch considering...
Wikipedia wrote:A notable difference between the two is the fact that Classic Fury is caucasian, while Ultimate Fury is African-American, and was in fact specifically tailored after actor Samuel L. Jackson with his permission.
I'd say they definitely went with the Ultimates version with the full intention of casting Samuel L. Jackson for the role.
