I plan on picking it up for the PC even though I am scared at how much they have probably fucked up the Shadowrun setting.

At least you won't have to roll 732 six-siders to do anything in this game.

hah, I still have my box of d6's that my players dreaded me pulling out when I ran Shadowrun sessions back in Kansas. I think it is a 500 count box of mini-d6's.

I havent seen A LOT about this game, but from what Ive read its pretty good. I hear the fighting is pretty fast. Powerups galore. The way race tech magic powers mix work very well. What I was wondering was that if you need Vista to play with 360 people or do you need vista to play at all online.

Seeing as the game has no single player (online only), you need Windows LIVE... ergo, you need Vista.

I was part of the Windows LIVE gaming Anywhere beta, which ran just fine on XP... if that means anything.

I'd be all over a MMORPG adaptation of Shadowrun, but a multi-player only FPS doesn't really do much for me.

I loved the Sega Genesis Shadowrun, but other than that I haven't seen any game pull off Shadowrun in a good way.

Yeah, plus I don't think there is much that could/would be done to compete with the fear of Aztechnology that my players had

Come to think of it, Rifts would do the trick for me also. Palladium's mechanics blew for all of their pnp games, but the setting for Rifts was something I always thought was pretty sweet. I'd be down with any cyberpunk style mmo, but I have a fondness for settings that blend supernatural elements with the technology.

FPS gaming has become so tedious lately, I don't really care what type of setting is involved anymore. I saw this and was hoping for a remake of the genesis game, and all I see is yet another FPS. Like killing rats and spiders in any and every fantasy MMO, using my rocket launcher, sniper rifle, and/or my only melee weapon when I run out of bullets is just so uninspired.

I'm ready for something different. The WW2 FPS shooters were a great way to inject some fun into FPS games again, but now that has been completely played to death as well. Perhaps a WW1 FPS? I don't really know what would get me back into paying 50$ to play an FPS again.

I disagree, I think there is a good variety and I have gotten more into them lately then I have ever been. You have tactical games like GRAW2 and Rainbow Six Vegas, you have crazy close range combat games like gears, your war games, etc.

I know you aren't stupid so I don't know why you are acting like it. HMM LET'S SEE, MAGIC, MULTIPLE RACES... It has a bit of that thrown in which as far as I know has never happened in a fps.. but because you are bored with fps games it must just be another one.

Shadowrun has all the typical elements of a FPS, but the other shit thrown into the mix make it refreshing, different and a lot of fucking fun.

I'm mildly curious about this game (still not curious enough to upgrade to Vista for it though!). It looks like only 4 races are represented. In a game that only has 5 player races to begin with, one must wonder what the devs have against Orcs. The game seems to be mostly combat oriented. Does this mean that within the game, your options are limited to traditional melee roles (street samurai, weapons specialist, combat adepts, etc.)? I would expect that the Shadowrun world without Riggers, Deckers/Hackers, Shamans, Technomancers and the like would be rather mundane. At the end of the day, is it mainly just a "blow the shit out of your enemy" romp with some elements borrowed from the Shadowrun universe?

Theres a mod for source called Dystopia. Its an interesting but no very much different fps. You can chose different builds for your character (small medium large, basically they have a balance between armor and speed) and a good selection of mods. (healing, movement, shooting, even decking) Reason why I bring it up is because I think it has a lot of ideas Shadowrun could of incorporated. They are both cyberpunk, just dystopia lacks magic and shadowrun lacks decking. A game using all of that would just be all sorts of awesome.

Only complaints would be that they're not holding the swords correctly and makes you wonder if there really is a need for a blade for certain races.

I'm not sure if the big gun is an HK227 or an assault rifle (prolly not the FN-HAR, perhaps it's the AK), but the pistol the one guy has is an Ares Predator 2.

It's been... 13 years since I last saw a SR sourcebook. How's that for long-term nerd memory?

I decided to pick this up yesterday and I must say I am not disappointed at all.

At first I was worried that the lack of a campaign would make me shelf it pretty quick, but the depth of the online play is definately going to keep me playing it.

Just imagine, getting shot at and almost being dead - and being able to warp through the wall and then fly up on top of the building to escape harms way.

I think if you are on the fence about this game you should definately pick it up! I was lucky to get the last copy my local gamestop had.

miir - definately give me a shout, I'll make sure and be on live messenger so you can get a hold of me (I have to check what it is and get back to you) would be a pleasure to play with / against you!

Lynks - Yes. They are not very long - there are 6 that are probably about 10 - 15 minutes each but they do a good job of familiarizing you with things new to this genre (mostly the magic stuff) I would definitely recommend going through them.

Yeah, I think it's kind of screwed up to have a Vista Only game out this soon, but I honestly can't remember how long it took for XP only games to come out. I was already planning on upgrading to Vista, and then upgrading my video card later this summer anyhow. I might go ahead and get the 360 version on the way home from work though...I don't think my 7600 GT would be good enough to run this in Vista :(

DO IT! None of the people I normally play with have picked this up yet so I am looking for a few people to play online with. Send me a chat or message on the 360 if you decide to pick it up.

I'm getting it either way. I just haven't made up my mind whether to go ahead and upgrade to Vista and get the PC version or just go with the 360 version. As much as I played Gears of War and R6: Vegas on the 360, I'm not much of a fan of console FPS's. That's one reason I was looking forward to playing Shadowrun with some friends that do like the console for games like this.

I'm disappointed. This game feels like it is only half-finished, on the PC at least. Very little "feels" like Shadowrun. The setting is a stretch, the races are...eh, they're there, weapons...well, the minigun is there, but there is so much more they could have included in this game. I know my expectations were high, but this setting would work MUCH better as an MMO than a FPS.

Main difference between Trolls and Elves beside the model?

Different magics? More HP? Beefier? Elves much faster movement?

Basics:

Elves get faster movement, quicker healing when standing still.

Trolls are bigger and stronger, they also develop crystals on their bodies when taking damage which acts as additional armor.

This Windows Live bullshit is so annoying.
I'm not going to have a lot of time to play in the next few weeks so I held off on using my 'free' month of gold and was forced to suffer through using silver to connect to games this weekend.
I only saw a max of 5 public dedicated servers on the weekend... and half the time I couldn't even connect to them. When I did manage to get into a game it was pretty damn fun.

I can see value in a gold membership for xbox users but for PC there are only 2 games available on Live... Halo 2 and Shadowrun. And there's no way I'm gonna pay a premium box price for a fucking 3 year old console port. What the fuck were they thinking???

Fuck Microsoft.
If they really wanted to encourage PC gamers to buy into their Live service, they should offer a minium of 3 months free Gold membership for the first few games released. Especially when PC gamers have hundreds and hundreds of top quality, FREE online (FPS, RTS, Racing, etc) games already available.
