Greatest Game Ever
Okay, the results are in, and the winners of the 8 video game categories are:
Street Fighter 2 [Arcade]
Legend of Zelda [Console]
Counterstrike [FPS]
Everquest [MMO]
FF7 [RPG]
Starcraft [RTS]
Madden [Sports]
Civilization [Other]
Vote on which game you think is the best overall game of all time. If you don't like any of the choices on the list, tough luck, stop supporting losers. You probably voted for Kerry in '04 too, stupid liberal.
I'll leave this poll up for 2 weeks, at which time the overall champion will be crowned.

If FF4 was on that list, it would get my vote. As it stands, Starcraft is the only real choice on that list.
War is an option whose time has passed. Peace is the only option for the future. At present we occupy a treacherous no-man's-land between peace and war, a time of growing fear that our military might has expanded beyond our capacity to control it and our political differences widened beyond our ability to bridge them. . . .
Short of changing human nature, therefore, the only way to achieve a practical, livable peace in a world of competing nations is to take the profit out of war.
--RICHARD M. NIXON, "REAL PEACE" (1983)
"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, represents, in the final analysis, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children."
Dwight Eisenhower

I voted Counterstrike only because it's the only game that I still continue to play off and on today. I don't think I'd ever pick up any of the other games again. I never got into Starcraft, so I imagine if I had, my view on this could have changed. Kind of sucks because Everquest was really amazing in the time that I played it, but I guess I voted on staying power and I doubt much of anything could draw me back to that game.
Nothing like knifing somebody in counterstrike and watching them scream of hax, lag and/or various members of my family.

sc ftw!
starcraft is definitely my favorite game (eq coming in a close 2nd).. the 3 different races with 3 unique playing styles was vast amounts of awesomeness for which i could never explain in words.. also when it first came out i was still in high school so i could play it endlessly and did with great enjoyment..
seeing the amount of votes for civilzation makes me want to find it and play it or if the newer ones are just as good try one of those.. if anybody who voted for civ wants to cough up some infos on which would be the best to start with that would be great..

No GTA3? The game that redefined a genre?
"There is at least as much need to curb the cruel greed and arrogance of part of the world of capital, to curb the cruel greed and violence of part of the world of labor, as to check a cruel and unhealthy militarism in international relationships." -Theodore Roosevelt
Duke Nuk'em 3D is obviously the best FPS ever. Despite giving me motion sickness, I'd play until on the verge of puking...and beyond! Best weapons (shrinker, trip bombs), most varied levels (indoors/outdoors city, spaceship, belly of an alien), funny lines, pole dancers, ane more!Voronwë wrote: wtf is Duke Nukem 3???!!!
Quote from the net:
And just as a side note, even though Doom was multiplayer, I think Duke3D was really the first game to actually stress balanced multiplayer gameplay. Quake would later take that a step further, and bring it to the internet, but the first exciting multiplayer FPS has to be Duke3D. Perhaps the fact that my coworkers and I would map out the office in the (included) Build editor and then Duke it out in our boss's office had something to do with it... not sure. I suppose that's another thing that Duke3D helped pioneer -- included level editors. Even if you didn't care for single player or level design, Duke3D is a great investment for those that just enjoy LAN parties. It's up there w/ Quake and Descent when it comes to multiplayer.

Wanting the same info. I went to Fry's today and could only find Civ III/IV and Chronicles. Am I missing out on anything if I start out at III?
