Greatest FPS Ever
Okay, I'm slowly going to begin un-stickying the nomination threads and making polls for them. Polls will run for 7 days. Which is the greatest FPS ever?

I just put whatever was nominated. I haven't played any of the Rainbow 6 games. I'll let whoever nominated clarify.
The only thread posted so far that I intentionally grouped a franchise was the Arcade game thread. In my mind, it's hard to differentiate between Pacman and Ms. Pacman, or MKII and MKIII than it is to look at the difference between the final fantasy games or the zelda games.

I view a "greatest ever" poll to be about what had the biggest impact. On me, that would be the Rainbow Six series followed by Tribes. One led to more "realistic" shooters and the other offered some kick ass online options which had not really been seen before.Funkmasterr wrote:I'm sorry, but I can see arguments that older ground breaking games are better (or more influential) than Gears, but I think it's crazy to say that anything lately including but not limited to R6 Vegas is even in the same league with gears
Think it's safe to say where my vote went.
*edit* apparently I also have a W key that sticks!

Tribes was a fun game (I think I played Tribes 2), I was a big fan of being able to jet pack online! Another weird shooter game I liked a lot and did not see mentioned was Giants: Citizen Kabuto.Boogahz wrote:I view a "greatest ever" poll to be about what had the biggest impact. I agree with you on the older r6 games I guess, but I thought that Vegas was an abortion of a game from pretty much all aspects.
Only time will tell, but I think that Gears will have a fair impact on future shooter games (Particularly the cover system which they have already said the next R6 will use.)

Giants: Citizen Kabuto was just a great game as well.
Loved the humor but I really disliked the last level where you actually played as Kabuto.
As much as I loved Gears in the SP and Co-Op modes, I hated the multiplayer portion of the game. A more robust matchmaking system would've improved this tremendously.
Lack of Team support also aggravated me in R6:Vegas but I thought the Multiplayer there was fantastic (Attack and Defend is a blast to play)

See I love the multiplayer in gears, I only play games online when I have friends that are playing as well - I never use the quick match option in a game. I hated how people bitching and complaining about getting whooped made it so you can't see the host name of the game (in ranked matches.) That didn't stop me from only playing ranked matches on a team of 3 of my friends, but it made it a pain when it shouldn't have been an issue.Animalor wrote:Giants: Citizen Kabuto was just a great game as well.
