PlayStation Home is real.
It's kinda like Second Life meets 360 achievments.
1up has a few pictures of what it's going to be like. All of this will be accessible through the XMB interface.
This thing will be going beta in April and Live in the Fall.

Frankly it seems like a cool idea if you're into the whole 2nd life thing.

Sony announced their version of Viva Pinata as well today:

It's slated for 2008 so the PS3 still has 10-12 months to go except for maybe Metal Gear Solid.
By that time, they might be including a rumble enabled controller with the system.
Sony wasn't always on top. Nintendo was before them and is on top of Sony again this generation atm...if selling more units while making a profit instead of a loss on units counts for something.

We may see a real about-face from Sony's spin-doctors about rumble if rumors that they're persuing it again are true. I personally don't give a shit about rumble, but then again I'm not particularly sold on the concept of wireless-just-cause-we-can thing, or motion control either. But i guess some will be thrilled if they get their palm-massager back.
As for the OP story, it's probably the biggest news I've heard from the consoles in months. I know that's not saying much, but still. PS3 looks like it'll probably be a hot ticket after all. At least eventually.

That video is better. The 23 minute Home walk through on that site is nice as well. The construction part was cool. Hopefully some other games will end up using that ragdoll engine.
I'm most interested in the mini games in Home that they didn't really play...the driving range, shooting baskets, etc. Those looked like fun. While PS3 Home will be extremely limited, it makes me want the new Second Life engine to hurry up and get here.

I really dislike GameVideos.com.
LittleBigPlanet looks pretty good and is technically impressive. I'm wondering how long this type of level building will stay interesting however. As well, will Sony be reviewing and enforcing what goes into user made levels or will textures that you put in from images on your PS3 only be available on your own PS3?
Wouldn't want timmy looking at a littlebig prolapsed anus.
I wonder if selling virtual furniture and clothes to people who are into that whole thing(they are going to make a KILLING in japan with this) as well as ad space and publisher spaces on the home how they plan on making money to support the whole PSN.
Rather ingenious if you ask me.
Personally I never really sared about Second Life, MySpace, the EQ2 appartments or any of that type of stuff so this particular type of environment isn't something that really appeals to me. Kudos on Sony if they can pull it off and it looks as good as it did in the demo.

People really shouldn't compare this PS3 Home thing to Second Life. These social games come down to communication ultimately and with Home, you need to be within earshot (if PS3 owners buy a bluetooth headset/mic) or need to hookup a keyboard (not many are going to do that on a console). No serious chatter is going to take place with the toontown-like chat bubble selections. I just can't see people hanging out very long with the limited chat/communication. It does seem neat for mini games though. The concept of having hubs for all the different game makers and even other products like Coke or Pepsi is interesting as even the non game companies would probably put some mini games in to attract avatars to their area. For PS3 Home, providing a headset/mic in the core PS3 system would help a lot. There's a lot more voice to voice chat in 360 games simply because everyone is given a headset to begin with. I don't know how much bluetooth headsets cost but I think there's something to be said for having a console system voice chat enabled right from the start.Animalor wrote: Personally I never really sared about Second Life, MySpace, the EQ2 appartments or any of that type of stuff so this particular type of environment isn't something that really appeals to me.
