Sorry, I should have quoted Funk to be more direct with my reply.
Your brilliant idea there didn't work out nearly as well as Rage Against the Machine ever did.
I heard Audioslave put on some great live shows, but I would place them above neither Rage nor Soundgarden.
Funk, you do realize that "the guitarist dude", a.k.a. Tom Fucking Morello, along with Wilk and Commerford, did replace Zach (the "whiney bitch") with Chris Cornell of Soundgarden to form fucking Audioslave?Funkmasterr wrote:The guitarist dude that did all the different crazy stuff was awesome, but the lead vocalist was a whiney bitch. I think that with the instrumental talent they had, they could have been a lot better with a better lead singer who wasn't always making songs about some kind of activist shit.

Do unto others what has been done to you.
This has been a constantly developing story.
First there were rumors that Audioslave was breaking up when Cornell decided to do another solo record that were vehemently denied by both Cornell and Morello.
Then there were rumors that Audioslave was breaking up when RAtM booked a "Retirement Show" at Coachella.
Then Audioslave actually broke up, after denying it for quite some time.
Now RAtM have booked a couple additional dates aside from Coachella.
That's all I know thus far.
Funk, the guitarist you are referring to is Tom Morello. The vocalist for RAtM was Zach de la Rocha. Oddly enough, Morello is much more known for his activism, being a Harvard educated Socialist who also performs as The Nightwatchman, a folk musician playing political protest songs much in the style of Guthrie or Dylan.
And for those of you who cream your panties for all things Tool, Morello was a key figure to the formation of that band.
That's enough random information for now.
edit. You guys all replied while i was typing.

I wasn't commenting on Audioslave at all, I have heard some of there stuff and liked it but do not have a strong opinion about them either direction.
What I do know is that I can take activism and whining in small doses, but every damn song rage made involved both. The songs of theirs I did end up liking, I liked because of the guitar/drums,etc (Bulls on Parade,Wake Up) off the top of my head. (Yes I know the lyrics to these songs were no different then any others)

Hey, why you getting mad at me?! Behind Tool, RatM has been a favorite sinice their inception! I believe I first met the both of them at Lollapalooza '93's second stage.Truant wrote:And for those of you who cream your panties for all things Tool, Morello was a key figure to the formation of that band.
Iirc, Tom Morello was friends or roommates with Maynard and Danny was playing with Morello's band when he introduced them. Or somesuch.
I saw RatM with Wu Tang Clan not long before they broke up. The stadium they played had the worst accoustics ever. I would pay $200 to see RatM again, anywhere other than there.

I'd known RAtM and Tool were close, but I wasn't aware of Morello's role in Tool's inception...Sylvus wrote:Iirc, Tom Morello was friends or roommates with Maynard and Danny was playing with Morello's band when he introduced them. Or somesuch.
According to Wikipedia anyway: Carey was introduced to Jones by Tom Morello, an old high school friend of Jones.

Agreed. Rage totally kicked ass. And while the breakup initially shocked me, I always new they would come back. Too much of a good thing and what not. While they may be activists and whatever, they were actually the only band of our generation (well, mine at least, fuck you old people!) to stand up against our government like it was the sixties again. I've never had anything but respect for them since their inception.
And Audioslave had like 3 good songs, and Cornell blows. That's right, I said it.

I think that Chris Cornell is one of the best vocalists in rock music. He has probably one of my three favorite voices, along with Layne Staley and Maynard from tool.
But Zach de la Rocha is a poet and Tom Morello is a guitar god who is only rehashing the innovations he came up with in Rage Against the Machine.
RATM > Soundgarden > Audioslave > Chris Cornell
p.s. I hate insomnia.

Rage was self destructing beauty. During the whole Bush/Iraq situation, I was wishing Rage would get back together and put to song what I was feeling inside. They have a great way of doing that for me.
I would pay 200$ to see Rage as well. At one time, I had tickets to the Beastie Boys and RATM tour in Detroit about 7 years ago, but someone broke thier arm or some shit and the show was either cancelled or the date was moved. I just know I was never able to see, what could've been the best concert of my life. It was called the Rhyme & Reason Tour and I totally missed out

It's not the same as what RATM might have done, but have you listened to "Wide Awake" from the last Audioslave album? I bought the album on iTunes and the accompanying video interview was interesting.Fairweather Pure wrote:During the whole Bush/Iraq situation, I was wishing Rage would get back together and put to song what I was feeling inside.

I loved RATM and am happy to see them playing a few shows
I think Zach De La Rocha is a great singer/shouter person - much better than Cornell.
Cornell has a great range and is obviously a powerful singer, I just never particularly liked how it actually sounded. Which is why I never really liked Audioslave. Cornell just sounds bland.
As for Morello and Tool, Wikipedia states that:
I wish I was going to Coachella, but it's about 3000 miles away

As for Morello and Tool, Wikipedia states that:
Allegedly, Jones and Keenan were going to use Carey's practice space one day to try out a new drummer, the drummer never turned up and Carey sat in.Carey was introduced to Jones by Tom Morello, an old high school friend of Jones. In 1990 when Carey, then a neighbor of Keenan, joined their rehearsal, Tool was formed. The next year Tool began touring with Rollins Band, Skitzo, Fishbone, and Rage Against the Machine.[10]

Not quite, but his solo album is very very good. The influence from Jeff Buckley clearly shows in this album. Cornell's voice is easily one of the best rock vocalists out there, but in the later audioslave it did indeed turn bland in some songs.Cornells solo album was the best album out of RATM, Audioslave and Soundgarden imho.
After seeing Audioslave live in Paris, I would be more than willing to shell out 200 dollars to see Rage. Rage against the Machine is in a league of their own when it comes to music and I think their fanbase shows that despite all of their "whiney" political messages. Even my conservative friends don't mind their political left messages, they just know they rock.
I've read recently that it's only going to be those 3 shows, but god damnit they're the only band that actually mattered in the 90's.
I'm going to live forever or die trying

I couldn't have said it better myself. I loved Chris Cornell's vocals, and I loved RATM, but I couldn't get into Audioslave, his voice and their music just didn't fit well. I would love to see RATM live.Sylvus wrote:I think that Chris Cornell is one of the best vocalists in rock music.
