Crocop comes to UFC

Post by Kryshade »

So, what do you guys think about the announcement that Mirko Crocop will be coming to the UFC? I think it's the first step in a long process to make UFC the premier MMA organization in the world.

I just can't seem to get into PRIDE for some reason, but I do respect the talent of the fighters they have. Would love to see a merger of the two into the UFC presentation/rule set. I think Crocop is going to add another level of talent to the heavyweight division, and I'd love to see how he does up against the likes of people like Vera. (Personally I think he'd destroy Sylvia).

Best thing since sliced bread.

CC will become UFC HW-champ and i hope Rampage demolishes Potbelly-Iceman and becomes LHW champ.

I couldn't have said it better. Light heavyweight and heavyweight division really needs a shaking up badly. Middleweights got it with Anderson Silva and welterweights have St. Pierre and BJ Penn from time to time. At lest I could watch Hughes and be entertained and say that he was a skilled fighter, Liddell and Sylvia are just awful though.

On a slightly different note I'm sad to see Couture coming back to the heavyweight division. I have a bad feeling he just won't be able to take out Sylvia because of the size difference and will lose to the retreat and jab technique Slyvia does so well. Even if he does pull off the upset he'll have to go up against CC and that will be a massacre.

Hrmm, maybe I'm weird, but I like Liddell, that dude is bad ass at striking, and has taken down some decent competition. It's hard to face someone like him when you know all it takes is one punch, and if he opens up on you, it's goodnight. Sure, as a striker, he's vulnerable to ground game, but his takedown defense is awesome. The man is just explosive and dangerous. I personally find him to be a very enjoyable fighter to watch. Just curious, what is it that makes others see him as different?

Yeah, I like ol Randy, but I don't think he should have come back, I just don't think he's going to be able to keep up with the younger talent, and I agree that if he goes up against Crocop it's not gonna be pretty.

I've never actually seen Rampage fight... is he any good, what's his game - striker, grappler?

I think he is simply ducking Fedor and a Hunt rematch

I like Liddell as well, so your not alone Kry. I wouldnt mind seeing a rematch. I do think Chuckie would need to get into a bit better shape for that tho.

If I knew I would always have to fight Fedor for the #1 spot I'd leave for UFC as well. Although Crocop wasn't able to take out Fedor for the title he is so much better than the current fighters in the UFC's heavyweight division that he should easily roll through and take the title and not face any significant competition until they bring in more new talent.

As to Liddell the reason I dislike him is that technically speaking his standup is very poor. The reason he wins with it is because he happens to have very heavy hands and when he does land a square punch he can knock people out. I'm less than impressed with someone that simply relies on innate heavy hands and a pretty tough chin to just throw wild looping punches that leave him open but ends up winning as long as he gets that one hit in. His takedown defense is fairly decent but it's generally less of a defense and more of his ability to just get up from the ground after a takedown. Of course against someone like Jackson who has a great ground game he was unable to prevent the takedowns or get back up once on the ground.

I think the other reason I dislike Chuck is just in responsethe redneck population of fans that prop him up as a fantastic striker that just can't be beat. They of course ignore the fact that he lost to Jackson in Pride and the majority of his recent fights/wins have been rematches against fighters he already beat before.

I know you said you didn't like Pride very much but if you check out some Wanderlei Silva or Shogun Rua fights in Pride, same weight division as Liddell, they are a good example of the level of fighter that is just far and above Liddell.

What makes me laugh is when ignorant MMA-fans (rednecks usually) say that Iceman is the Best LHWeight in THE WORLD!

I wouldnt say that, I just like him because he is basically going to try to knock someone out with a lucky punch and he knows thats what he is going to try to do and its what everyone he fights knows he is going to do....its not like its some big secret and he still manages to do it. Even in the loss to Rampage he almost landed that shot. Being a redneck I dont mind pulling for the guy I think is totally outclassed.

What you said. Chuck is a great bar-fighter. The only reason he stays the champ in the UFC is the lack of real talent. There are some great fighters, but on the world stage not one of them will hold up for long. And, for the record, Crocop is going to slaughter the UFC and make several people his bitches.

Yes Yes yes

Chuck is a great counter-puncher, good power in his fists and has great range with his arms and can strike efficiently when back-pedalling and from strange positions.

He is good, but not the best in the world! :)

You know, one other thing I'd like to see the UFC get back to is inter-weight class fights. They used to do it way back when, and I know they are pushing for more regulated fights, but I think it would be awesome to see some of the different weight class fighters mix it up. How about Crocop vs. Hughes? Liddell vs. St Pierre etc. They aren't THAT far off in weight that I think it would lend an advantage either way.

I would love to have the UFC return to being the "Ultimate Fighting Championship". It bothers me a great deal that they still use the same name, yet don't allow so many things, to include inter-weight matches. Royce Gracie fought against guys like Tank Abbott (although I don't know if they ever fought each other, I have seen both of them fight people not even close to their own weight.) I still enjoy watching the fights, they are in some cases more entertaining than ever, but I don't like weight classes in an ultimate fighting championship. That doesn't define the ultimate fighter, only the ultimate fighter in that weight class.
