We don't need no civil war.

http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/meast/11/23/iraq.main/
Bombs and mortar shells struck Sadr City at 15-minute intervals, beginning about 3 p.m., according to The Associated Press, with the first bombing hitting a vegetable market.

Shiites responded almost immediately, the AP reported, firing 10 mortar rounds at the holiest Sunni shrine in Baghdad, the Abu Hanifa Sunni mosque in Azamiya. The attack killed one person and wounded 14 others, the AP said.
CNN helpfully supply video of "flames, chaos", just in case i twasn't obvious this was a bad thing.

If only there was someone in power there who knew how to keep them in check.

We could keep them in check. We just need to execute a bunch of them, torture another group, throw some more in a prison and then gas the rest like in the good old Saddam days. Why let him have all the fun?

Iraq will always be a shithole but at least they'll be killing each other off for awhile instead of invading other countries that give us oil.

I suppose we should have let Saddam continue on after Kuwait and watch as he rolled over Saudi Arabia and on from there. We could have then wiped out one larger Arab country to secure our oil instead of have to deal with a bunch of little ones...but Israel would have probably used nukes by then and screwed up the land preventing us from exploiting it properly.

There really is no more "Iraq". There are three separate states at this point...and I do not see it getting much better any time soon.

I'm pretty sure the reason we're not just carving that piece of shit up and selling weapons to the three factions is because then Halliburton would have to foot the bill for security operations. Why do that when you have an ignorant and easily manipulated voter base willing to send their sons off to die?
