Is there a way to disable the auto-resize for images?

Is there a way to disable the auto-resize for images?

Post by masteen »

I noticed it in Winnow's 9/11 thread, but when the board squishes images so they fit onto my screen, I can't scroll through them properly (it stutters and jumps). What's weird is that I can scroll just fine until they all finish loading, and get compressed.

I'm pretty sure it's a board setting, and not my computer, because I have all that kind of crap disabled in IE.

It was an add-on that I had to go into the code to add, and I only did it because people bitching the other way were doing so louder than the people who don't like it are now. That, and I was bored one day. So I suppose you could get a grassroots campaign going to annoy the piss out of me and motivate me to remove it, but I don't seem to have as much free time lately as I did when I spent the time installing it. I'd rather you just learned to live with it until the day when we do a full board reinstall, at which point I can just not install that part this time.

I like the resizing. All you have to do is click on the image to open it full size in another window.

For most pictures it doesn't matter, but for the 911 text jpegs I created, you need to either have a larger monitor (you have a 24" monitor masteen!) because the text gets all messed up.

The good points are that margins aren't all screwed up, the bad part is that the code for resizing moves you to the middle of the thread on opera and firefox after the resizing takes place.

Screwed up margins bite. Encourage people to resize images. It doesn't take much effort these days to do so but most people link from the net.

On the comics thread, it's nice to be able to view a larger image if your monitor resolution permits it but otherwise resize to allow reading the text posts as well.

The other extension option for this that I've seen on other boards is automatically resizing the text posts while allowing the image posts to be wider. That works as well.

Has anyone rooted around for new updates or extensions for phpBB?

I'd hate to see the resizing go away as it's easier to click on an image that you can't see to view it full size because your resolution is too puny than to scroll back and forth on a 50 post page that has one image that screws up the entire works.

I can go 3840 pixels wide but still prefer the resized images to fucked up margins.

It would have been easier for us if you transcribed those old forum posts and made them available for download in a MSWord format.

Did you get them in JPG format? Or did you get them as the files and then take pics of them? I wanted the original files so I could host them as pages here on this server...

I have the http files from Adex. I used a scrolling window capture program to grab the thread pages and saved them in jpeg.

Here's the originals that Adex gave me so someone else can rework them:

It's only 330kb

I copy/pasted them into a easy to read word doc with all the formatting intact.

If anyone wants it or has somewhere I can host it, let me know. It's just alittle over 2 megs
