After hyping Opera 9 for awhile and encountering web page errors that are the fault of the web designers and not Opera, I'm finding similar format and java issues with Firefox 2.
I'm still having to load up Maxthon for certain web sites.
In a world without asshats, I'd rank the browsers
1. Opera 9
2. Firefox 2
3, IE 7
In the real world:
1. Firefox 2
2. Opera 9 (first if web designers conformed to standards)
3. IE 7 (IE 7 would be second with a simple option to open new search results into new tabs but would drop back to third again if web designers conformed to standards)
To bring this home, Opera performs the worst on VV while posting messages. It doesn't refresh edited posts automatically and the auto /img /quote, etc tags are Fubar with the cursors being placed in the wrong spot after hitting one of those buttons which is extremely annoying having to place the cursor back in the right spot afterwards. Firefox fares just slightly better in that whenever you hit one of the /quote /img etc tags, the text entry box freaks out and the scroll bar jumps to the halfway point so you must scroll back down again afterwards. Also, both Firefox and Opera will jump back to halfway up the thread after the images in a thread are reformatted to fit in the margins.
Internet Explorer doesn't have a problem with either of these annoying issues. It's poor coding by the phpBB peeps.

Web "standards" are a joke since all the browsers do things their own way. There are very few sites that use extensive scripting and CSS that will look 100% as intended in all three major browsers. There probably aren't any if the designer were to refrain from using "hacks" in their code to make it work right.
Standards are a good idea, but a ways off from being something worth worrying about I think.

Tabbed browsing is a must for me. Even better is the showcase thumbnail extension on firefox which is speedy to use either on the sidebar or by hitting F12 for a full window popup thumbnail selector window all usable via the arrow keys.Boogahz wrote:never been a fan of tabbed browsing. I guess I just haven't figured out why some people feel like it's such a requirement in a browser.

You need a quad-core brain!
I know some people like to open tab groups all at once. I usually have three or four tabs always open, one of which is VV and then open more on top of those.
Here's my current browser setup (shrunk to 1024X768) I don't have the thumbnails open on the left side all the time but they update live so I can see if ESPN changes it's headline/pic for example and and the thumbnails refresh when I manually refresh pages as well. More importantly, it's easy to open other tabs, like the Firefox Showcase tab, to grab the link for this post for example instead of opening another browser window or leaving this window and possibly losing what I've typed. Tabs/thumbnails are extremely useful for me when posting links, images, etc on the comics forum here. The thumbnails resize on the fly. More useful than you might think! Try them out for a day or two if you have firefox. Be sure to add the little showcase button to your toolbar to access the sidebar thumbs as well as the F12 option.
Not the best for a small screen but great for higher res and widescreen monitors.
