Aside from a 5-0 April, they lost like 12 of 18 games that Pedro started. After his last 4 starts, this is not very shocking. It sucks that he cannot compete in the playoffs, because he has meant so much to the Mets the last couple years, but their success does not hinge on this.
That said, the rotation, although it has playoff experience (re: Hernandez and Glavine), is going to have to get hot and fast. I am encouraged by some recent performances though.
Here is the problem though, should a Subway Series happen (and I do not think there is any other NL team that can take the Mets, even now): This rotation is not all that much better than the rotation in 2000. On the plus side, the lineup is many times more fierce.
No predictions here though--just not too worried about not having Pedro. I have watched about 130 games or so this year (yay MLB.TV!) and have seen much of how the Mets have won this season. Playoff success usually hinges on momentum and experience. The rest is all baseball...
