Muslim hysteria

Post by Nick »

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060915/ap_ ... pe_muslims

ANKARA, Turkey - Turkey's ruling Islamic-rooted party joined a wave of criticism of
Pope Benedict XVI on Friday, accusing him of trying to revive the spirit of the Crusades with remarks he made about Islam. A party official said the pontiff would go down in history "in the same category as leaders such as Hitler and Mussolini" for his words.

TheVatican said the pope did not intend the remarks — made in Germany on Tuesday during an address at a university — to be offensive.
Well done Turkey (and now Pakistan!) for taking a sentence completely out of context and over reacting again to some completely stupid thing that doesn't matter anyway.

This is beyond tedious.

The comment by the Pope WAS idiotic. Of course, he is an idiot so it was fitting.

Here's the quote as I could find with a quick Google News search.

http://news.monstersandcritics.com/euro ... _spokesman
The pope's controversial remarks came Tuesday when he was quoting a conversation that took place in Ankara in the year 1391 between Byzantine Emperor Manuel II Paleologus and an educated Persian on Christianity and Islam.

'Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached,' the pope quoted Manuel as saying.

After quoting this, the pope then quoted an academic, Theodore Khoury, who edited the original dialogue, as saying, 'In Muslim teaching, God is absolutely transcendent. His will is not bound up with any of our categories, even that of rationality.'
Why he chose to quote these things and what context he was saying them in, I don't know.

Why would this pope go down in history like hitler et al. when it's abundantly clear the popes have a whole group of predecessors who already started crusaders?

I mean, it'd be more accurate really.

Then again, i guess the muslims have learned from the online community that the first insult you should give to an opposing idea revolves around the "fuk u hitler" concept. "fuk u pope urban the second" or something just doesn't ring the same...

Umm

I read this early this morning and was dumbfounded that the Pope could be so utterly clueless. Then I remembered that proving the Earth to not be the center of the solar system pissed off a Pope, and wondered when we will let these dark age remnants fade.

That's too bad. The muslims never apologize for the barbarism the commit. I don't see why the Catholics should apologize for some words. What kind of people riot and burn things because a leader of another fake god makes a comment? Fucking animals, that's who.

Gotta agree with Midnyte. Pope said something stupid, so they went and burned 5 churches in Palestine? Christ, that's just stupid. Anytime Osama bin Laden releases a tape, we don't go and burn mosques here in the States.

clearly the only way to settle this is to get the pope and several leaders of the islamic world to come together for a 2-part primetime special with maury povich

then and only then will the world know true peace

I think the fact that Islam has no central authority and the local Imams (either peaceful or radical) have much say in molding the thought process of young faithful, is probably the biggest problem with the religion today.

Without an authoritarian voice to denounce the acts of violence commited by the so-called "faithful", things will only get worse.

I liked this article.

Unortunately, Islam, which gets its name from the root "sin lam mim" (my old arabic is rusty, so forgive me if I am wrong), meaning "to make peace" (loosely), lost it's central authority centuries ago to civil wars inside it's own domain. It seems even with a religion with peace in its name, violence is inherent to human nature... I didn't read the article yet, as time is short, but I'll get to it.

Edit: After a small amount of drunken research, I have discovered that, apparently, sin lam mim is a root for numerous arabic words, sin, lam and mim being actual characters in the arabic language. The essential meaning of "sin lam mim" as a word is safe or whole. This is the root of the arabic "salaam" meaning peace or whole (depending on the context).

Frankly that has no relevance to the fact that the pope is forced to apologise for stating that faith driven violence has no place in the modern world by people who are fanatic faith driven violent people.

It's utterly absurd.

For one thing, I don't think Midnyte cares much for Christianity either.

Comparing some shit that started nearly a millenium ago to current events is pretty far fetched. Shit, less than a century ago some Germans caused the Holocaust. Hard to care 'bout them Germans, eh!? Modern day Christianity pales in comparison to Islam in terms of violence.

Oh, and I can't help but laugh when in response to being called violent, they burn the likeness of the Pope and swear doom upon the western world.

they're victims to beeing born in that part of the world where there aren't mcdonalds, pizza hut and supermarkets on every street corner.

their lives are where westerners were quite a few years ago, added stress of having to deal with something like an alien invasion by outside cultures with a techonology level 50 times higher.

fucking animals comment makes you out to be the guy with the spying glass using the sun to burn ants because they dont do what you would prefer them to be doing.

they unlike ants and kids that need help, can advance at quite a rapid pace, and that's the ultimate goal of the western administrations, they're just going about it the wrong way (not that i know a good way mind you), but there has to be some better alternative then what we're doing today.

which is basically good idiology mixed with short time personal greed.

Midnyte, way to catagorize a whole group based on a small but LOUD subset of idiots. There are millions of rational and level headed muslims in the world, but that is a boring story and does not get news.

Someone pointed out that we do not go out and burn Mosque's but recently in LA there was a near riot at a Mosque on the anniversary of 9/11 as "Christian" groups tried to entice and harass the muslims there to pray. I know of no actual religion in the world that advocates violence, Islam including, I just know of ignorant people who twist words to justify their views. The muslims doing this are morons, but to call them all animals is pretty narrowminded.

Umm you are aware the christian zealots have snipered abortion doctors standing in their dining room and in front of their children right? Ever heard of Eric Robert Rudolph?

Islam has done nothing that Christians have not, as a religion in many ways Islam is less offensive. The only limit on christian extremism is the number of trailer parks and the available of cheap beer and Walmart.

less typos on your part might help /duckandcover

just reread my post which got you thinking about the war and 2001 for some reason and just think of the differences of societies, westerners vs arabs.

and snack for thought.

of all the oil that the western world removes from the middle east, and pays for it of course, if that oil flow would stop, who would lose more, and then i am talking about the average citizen point of view.
-
also who is gaining more from the current arrangement, the american citizen or for example the average joe iraqi.
-
with that all in mind
-
given the standard of living, difference between the 2 areas, who should be helping who.

The pope probably shouldn't have made the comment, but the reaction from various sects of the Muslim world is really getting tiresome.

My sympathy for Muslims has been lessening over the last year because the "good" Muslims aren't making any effort towards damage control for their religion. When Pat Robertson pops up every 6 months or so with some whacked out suggestion that so and so should be assasinated or x group is being punished by "God," there is huge backlash in the US and eventually Pat makes an apology.

Funny how Muslims can protest over the Pope's comment, but where the fuck are they when Muslim fundamentalists are preaching death and destruction?

I'm afraid I have to side with Midnyte. You really can't compare contemporary Christian behavior to contemporary Muslim behavior. Yes, there are bad apples in both bunches, but there are a whole fucking lot more bad apples in the Islamic bushel. I haven't seen Christians rioting for the death of all Muslims. In fact, I see a lot of misguided Christians thinking that invading Iraq would help its people.

You can make excuses about their culture, the things that they've gone through in their lives to make them so prone to violence, so angry at the West, but at some point they have to start acting civilized.

I do blame the Bush administration for stirring up a hornets nest invading Iraq, but the nest was there long before Bush.

The Muslims are definitely overreacting on this one......
...but Pope Palpatine should have fucking known better.

The world would be such a better place if all the superstitious kooks were deported to some remote corner....
War is an option whose time has passed. Peace is the only option for the future. At present we occupy a treacherous no-man's-land between peace and war, a time of growing fear that our military might has expanded beyond our capacity to control it and our political differences widened beyond our ability to bridge them. . . .

Short of changing human nature, therefore, the only way to achieve a practical, livable peace in a world of competing nations is to take the profit out of war.
--RICHARD M. NIXON, "REAL PEACE" (1983)

"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, represents, in the final analysis, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children."

Everyone in agreement? Uh oh.... This was a sign of the coming apocalypse. It's just too bad we all agree that the pope should have chosen his words better, rather than agreeing that Bush is a dildo or Canada blows because Mexico sucks or something more pressing to the global community.

Joo make me ROR Mid!

I for one do not blame the muslim community for hating christianity and the west. But that is because I did not attend Bill Ray Cyrus High School and Technical Center, and actually learned some history.

The are christian extremists as bad as any muslims dating back to the inception of both religions.

Current day please. Muslims are the animals. In a world of civilized people, these animals think it is back in the 1200's.

midnyte, it's because if you had to live a year in their shoes, you'd curse it all to hell. fly back to the states and ask why in the world they're living in the middle ages.

they're behind us culturally and economically.

if you'd like to know one of the reasons, it's this.

back in the "good" old days, the middle east saw how christianity was beeing re-understood, re-invented, re-written of sorts, all sorts of new christian sects popped up and war, chaos and bad things all ensued.

as a result muslim clergy took it upon themselves to suffocate any new version of the koran in it's birth.

stale is a word that can describe their cultural advancement as a result of this, whilst europe florished.

culture was followed by advancements (example, the world is round, off with his head blasphemy, things like this stopped happening)

so they're playing catchup, but in a geopolitical arena against cultural giant that is the western nations + friends.

so you'll excuse me of i blow snot at comments like this from lal
they have to start acting civilized

That's too bad. The muslims never apologize for the barbarism the commit. I don't see why the Catholics should apologize for some words. What kind of people riot and burn things because a leader of another fake god makes a comment? Fucking animals, that's who.
At least they have a reason to. What is your excuse when you and your good old boys go around burning black churches?
You cannot be serious? Nope. Couldn't be.
Are you going to answer the question, you racist fucking asshole?
