News isn't getting better either.
I'm not saying that MS won't get a boost in Japan cause of this cause I really don't think so but if Ninty can get the units on the shelves, they will fucking clean up.
This is great news for the 360 in Europe also.
Myiamoto, Fils-Aime, and Peter Moore are probably the ones having joygasms right now.
Personally, I just feel bad for PS3 fans.

So Sony is Shutting out a lucrative part of the market altogether for an extra 4 months, doing somewhat ok by the US and cockblocking it's core market altogether(Japan) with a measily 100k units on the launch date. But far fewer machines will be available for the launch dates in Japan and the U.S. because of the production problem, Kutaragi said.
In the U.S., about 400,000 PlayStation 3 machines will be available when they go on sale Nov. 17. About 100,000 will be available on the Nov. 11 Japan launch date.

i'm a fan of games in general so I just manage my money properly to plan purchases on new systems when they come out...I work for Sony so I assume that i will have a pretty easy time at getting a system day 1 if I work at it; however I wouldn't rush around like crazy for any system as i have plenty of games to play already and would rather just pick them up when they are easily available.
i'm confident that all three systems will have good offerrings of software in time for the holiday season...heck i'm still enjoying ps2 recent releases.
the hardware shortage going into this holiday season if unfortunate for Sony as well as our customers.

I imagine most PS3 fans have been prepped by the rumors that have been floating around the Net for the past several months that there would be either a setback of release date or a large shortage when it comes out. Still, it wouldn't be an easy pill to swallow if you hoped to have one by X-Mas.
I think it's going to take a fucking miracle for Sony to truely bounce back from this system launch.
I can't wait to see how much these sell for on Ebay!

So realistically, euro's are looking at another 8-9 months before any kind of substantial supply rolls into the european market for PS3s. That gives the 360 an 18 month headstart.
I'm sure the PS3 game developers aren't too happy with no money flow for their extra efforts making Cell Processor games.
There's so much positive 360 news lately that it's a little overkill now to post it.
Riiiiiiidge Racer!
(BTW, this game isn't half bad on the 360. I had more fun with it than Burnout Revenge which has a little too much going on. Burnout 2 was the best version.)

Are there any other sources with those numbers? I just find the 100k units on launch in Japan hard to believe. Maybe they are just so confident about the Japanese market supporting them they are willing to screw them over though /shrug.

According to some it's all about the Blu-Ray
And as far at the 500,000 (400k US / 100k Japan) goes that's just launch day. Supposedly they are slated to ship 2 million by the end of 2006. That's a addition 1.5 million in ~7 weeks. Although I'll be surprised if they make that numberWedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter has told GamesIndustry.biz that he believes the European PS3 delay proves Sony is out to win North American consumers over first and foremost.
"The allocation to the US - 80 per cent of initial shipments - is shocking, and it is clear that they intend to ship as many PS3s here till they crush Toshiba," Pachter said.
"I really think it's unfortunate for European consumers, but the delay makes clear that Sony intends to fight the Blu-Ray - HD-DVD battle on US soil."

Every single blog, gaming site and fanboy post I'm finding about these numbers(thanks Google News) points to the International Herald Tribune's story on this, and ITH got this from the Associated Press.Akanae wrote:Animalor wrote:But far fewer machines will be available for the launch dates in Japan and the U.S. because of the production problem, Kutaragi said.

Not sure how reliable this is but here are some preidcted numbers. It's not clear if this is U.S. sale or world sales. It mentions U.S. in the last paragraph.
http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?optio ... 1&Itemid=2Wedbush Morgan Securities has posted strong predictions for sales of Xbox 360 this Holiday season, while downgrading its predictions for PlayStation 3.
WMS is predicting monthly sales of 250,000 units of Xbox 360 in August and September, up to 400,000 units in October, and between 750,000 – 1.25 million units monthly in November and December.
Meanwhile, the firm has downgraded its predictions for PS3 sales from 3 million to 2.3 million.
In a posting today, the analyst also added that “sell through of Xbox 360 hardware could be higher if the supply situation for the PS3 falls well short of demand, with many holiday gift givers likely substituting purchases of the 360 in place of the PS3”. Through July, NPD data shows that Xbox 360 hardware sales in the U.S. were 2.2 million units. By WMS stats, the installed base should be clear of 5 million by the end of the year.

So Sony cut the number of PS3s released by then end of 2006 from 4 million (announced at E3) to 2-2.3 million?
I was very excited for the PS3 when I first read that it would be able to do two outputs at 1080p (seriously, who can afford two viewing devices which have native 1080p support, though).
Does anyone know if the PS3 will still be able to do two displays (I am pretty sure I read that it won't be able to do two 1080p displays, though)? Even with one HD (whatever standard) display, and a normal TV (s-video, composite) display, I think this feature would rock.

I wouldn't worry too much about 1080P. It's overhyped and no games are in the works that will be 1080P.Aardor wrote:So Sony cut the number of PS3s released by then end of 2006 from 4 million (announced at E3) to 2-2.3 million?

No 1080p PS3 Games Yet, Says Sony
The PlayStation 3 may be capable of 1080p, but there are no games that support it right now. The company also clarifies the importance of HDMI for its self-styled full HD.
So the games are no better than Xbox 360's 720P games. This is in line with our earlier report, where a development source told Kikizo that, "even with [final hardware] in mind, reaching good frame rates at 1080p with next-gen graphics is almost impossible. Instead many developers, ourselves included, are reworking so they run at 720p. "
Why should I read previous posts when you can't even read a news item that is more current than June 2006.

sony should have done what MS did and offer a blu-ray addon when the technology is easier to manufacture, for like $100. blu-ray doesn't add anything to the console in regards to how it plays games, and now it is fucking their whole launch.
I don't know what it is with sony and their attempts to force people into new non-standard technologies. well, I understand their motivations, but you'd think they'd have learned by now after consumers have been punching them in the cunt over their new formats since the early 80's.

Since this seems to be the active console thread for the moment...360 games may have taken awhile to start hitting the shelves but check out the list of what was released in the past month:
Dead Rising - August 8th
Ninety-Nine Nights - August 15th
Madden NFL 07 - August 22nd
Enchanted Arms - August 29th
Saints Row - August 29th
Test Drive Unlimited - September 5th
That's pretty impressive including several exclusive titles.
And being released next Tuesday:
LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy - September 12th
NHL 07 - September 12th
NHL 2K7 - September 12th
World Series of Poker: Tournament of Champions - September 19th
Pretty good ratings on the games lately (except for Bomberman)
http://www.metacritic.com/games/xbox360/
I tried out Test Drive Unlimited for a little while tonight. It's better than the Demo version. Besides working your way through the races, etc. and buying vehicles, you can buy houses, clothes, etc. I don't know how fun this would be as a multiplayer game without an easy way to chat but for racing it's ok.
The GPS map, voice guidance system, HUD arrows, etc work very well to guide you aroung the huge area. It all seems well done, I'm wondering how long someone would want to cruise around an island in a car though. Maybe fun as a change of pace game from time to time. Seems very laid back which is nice.

Aruman, you have just made a complete fool of yourself. I can not remember, but I assume you are from the United States of America. Using that assumption, I am going to introduce you to the widely used "International Date Format." This format, while similar to the one commonly used in America Lists the year first, then the month, then the day. So it is YY/MM/DD instead of the american MM/DD/YY, where YY = the digits of the year, MM = the digits of the month, and DD = the digits of the day.
No one was posting old news, and BBC was obviously not stupid, because they didn't update anything, they reported on the same announcement as the first link posted. Please try and be less of an ignorant fuck, thanks.
Edit:
And I agree with Kyoukan about releasing a blu ray drive as an addon, unless their strategy was to dominate the next-gen DVD market, as Voronwe acknowledged as being a possibility.
