Looking for a host

Post by Deward »

I am going to be building a web site for my brother's business and need to find a good inexpensive internet host. Traffic shouldn't be too high but it could be anywhere from 100-10000 hits a month. I need to be able to use ASP.Net and Microsoft SQL Server and be able to set up secure payment systems. If necesary we will use Paypal but want to explore other options as well. We don't need to have our own server. Sharing one would be fine so long as performance is good. We are looking at two options for the website. One would have just basic pages with no item delivery and would therefore not need more than a few megs of space. The second option would provide instant download of purchased materials (pdf formats) and would require as much as 20 GBs or more of space.

Any recommendations are appreciated.

You're going to pay through the nose at most places to get a MSSQL database. If you can use MySQL, you'll save a lot of money.

Payment gateways and merchant accounts aren't cheap either. Most places charge at least $20 for the gateway and $10-20 for the merchant account. On top of that are the actual credit card processing fees.
