This is too bad for the people that were planning on buying just a HD-DVD/Blu-Ray drive for their PC.

I guess buying that Athlon64 2 years ago was a really good idea.

Disregarding Vista, what kind of practical benefits does a 64 bit processor provide at the current time?

I've never even looked into them.

I know what the technology is supposed to do, silly. I was looking more for anecdotal examples.

Do you run any software specifically tailored to 64 bit architecture that performs better than the it's 32 bit counterpart? Is there any difference in games? Etc...

In my personal experiences, I can't used a 64bit peice of software and when I tried to install XP 64bit on my PC originally, I ran into a driver quagmire that made the whole thing more trouble than it's worth.

There's a new build of Vista what's about to be released to MS Connect in the coming days (the last one before Release Candidate 1) and I'll be grabbing the x64 version to put it through it's paces and see if all my shit will work.

The only thing preventing me from using XP 64 is driver support. If Vista solved that, things would be peachy.

I'm not sure how big this HD content news is yet. I already have to buy the Ultimate Vista package due to needing both Remote Desktop connect (only available in the business versions of Vista) and wanting Media center functionality (only available in Home user versions). The Ultimate combines both.

I'm going legit with Vista. I'm sure there will be hacks for Vista but it's just not as fun as some of the other hacking out there anymore plus Microsoft deserves some of my cash for an OS at least once in my lifetime. Great company.

Remote Desktop wont be available in all versions? Sorta lame. Isn't that what's used for the remote assistance stuff? Think I did it once but don't remember exactly. Plus I use it all the time over SSH to access my home PC from work.

The remote desktop connection client is available for all versions but the host is only available on the business or ultimate editions. The host is only available on XP Pro as well.

OpenVPN is a fucking doddle to set up compared to any other VPN I've used with similar security; the only thing that's easier is PPTP but it's weak as shit if you don't change passwords a lot.

If this is an indication of their l33t skillz in the security business... hell, there's worse examples out there for Steve.
