Outkast - Idlewild

Post by Zamtuk »

buy this album

this album, while probably not as good as the last, is still great. i havent finished it quite yet (there are 25 songs) but what i have heard has been amazing. there is a whole lot of bands (marching and otherwise) in this album, and not so many hip hop beats. though as with all outkast you probably have to listen to this album over and over to truly appreciate it.

How did you manage to find your shift key four times in that whole post?

Also, I might buy this one even after I avoided their last due to the wonderful anti-piracy method used on it.

I don't know. I've only listened to it once so far, and even then not in its entirety, and I wasn't particularly impressed.

I'll reserve my final judgement until I've listened to it all the way through a few times.

I pretty much agree with you here.. I have been a huge fan of Outkast since day one, but I downloaded this a few weeks ago and i'm not all that impressed so far. I'll see once i've listened to it like everyone else said but yeah... I think Outkast was at their best with Atliens and Aquemini.

It just seems like they let Andre 3000 dig his fingers into this one a little too deep to me, Outkast was much better doing the classic rap they have always done and not his weird off the wall whatever it is. Their last cd was half good, but the love below was crap basically.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I was thinking. I like Speakerboxxx quite a bit better than The Love Below, it's just too slow or ballad-y for me or something, that's the best I can describe it. Idlewild seemed the same way.

If I'm looking for that style of music, I probably won't go to a rap group for it.

After listening to it a few times through, I pretty much just like the first 6 songs, then get bored with it after a while. Train, N2U, and Morris Brown are the three songs I listen to the most. Since shit music is ruling the air these days I have been listening to Bizarre Ride II quite extensively.

haha, it just stood out as being similar to the recent spam (check out some of the latest pan pal posts!)

Seeing Outkast on some show recently, I think this album may be too much of a "concept" album driven by their movie by the same name. Eventually, I expect that they will get back to putting out some good albums again...

According to a couple recent articles I read, they barely can be in the same room together and only recorded a few minutes together for the whole album. Many think this is their final album together.

Big Boi seemed pretty resigned to it in one of the articles. It sounded like Andre wants to get away from rap and follow this new direction he has been on.
When I was younger, I used to think that the world was doing it to me and that the world owes me some thing…When you're a teeny bopper, that's what you think. I'm 40 now, I don't think that anymore, because I found out it doesn't f--king work. One has to go through that. For the people who even bother to go through that, most assholes just accept what it is anyway and get on with it." - John Lennon

Yeah, that's been going on for a few years now. Watching them on Letterman the other night (at least I think that's what they were on), it was just an artist and his producer.

Yeah, I have been thinking that since the last cd when they were claiming they did seperate cd's just for fun.

You can basically tell when you listen to what Andre does with his music, then Big Boi has Purple Ribbon All-Stars that he does on the side which is totally different.

I have always been a Outkast fan, and would hate to see them split up, but I would rather that happen then watching their cd's get progressively worse.
