I just vomited a little bit while trying to look at that abomination. That's not even a remotely tolerable pink either. It seems like they spent extra time to create the most repulsive pink in existence.

Well when the console with the highest install base's hardware(notably the disk drive) has a lifespan of 12-24 months and can be replaced for 129$, why wouldn't it...

12-24 months my arse. I've heard of very few people with disc drive errors due to ageing. I've got test machines here (identical drives to retail) that have seen far harder use than any home machine and are still going strong after over 4 years.

I am currently on my fourth or fifth PS2, and mine didn't even get heavy use. I can also say that most other people I know have had at LEAST 2 of them.

My only PS2 (slimline version) has had hardly any use and when I popped in FFX the other day to play a bit, got a read error. Thankfully I was able to just restart the machine and it worked fine but I was rather pissed. The thing's gotten about maybe 150 hours of use at most and a good chunk of that as a makeshift DVD player when my standalone player died.
My PS1 pulled the same thing with hardly any use on it as well. It was one of the later models as I bought in late to that generation as well.
If all is well in PS2-Land, when why has Sony been hit with 2 class action lawsuits because of faulty drives/Disk Read Errors?
Um yea, and Microsoft has been hit with lawsuits regarding the Xbox and the Xbox 360.....
I've been doing a few Google searches for the last 15 minutes or so and other than the dude from Chicago that attempted to sue them last Dec (of which no follow up stories have been published), I've yet to find anything else about an actual lawsuit against the XBox 360 or the original XBox.
Let me note that I would not be surprised to see a serious class action effort in the coming month because of the red ring of death that a lot of people on the mesage boards seem to be experiencing if Microsoft ever stopped replacing consoles experiencing this for free (under warrenty of course).
I think extending the warrenty from 90 to 120 really helped delay this imo.
I have the same PS2 that I bought 6 years ago and have used it heavily as a DVD player and on-off as a gaming platform. I only really played Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy and a few other game series, but when I did, I played a lot. I have no problems with it at all. I think I got one no disc in tray message once and I cleaned the DVD on my shirt and it worked.
Anyone that will buy a new console because its a different color when they have one that works just fine already needs to seriously re evaluate their life and priorities.

a pink ps2 gives more street cred, I think she has her life and priorities straight. damn fool.

Because you know how everybody should be spending their money, and it's a travesty if a soul dare disagrees. I pity you if all purchases you make are based off of need.

holy shit you're dumb. maybe if you were actually good at your job then you'd have disposable income.

I think disposable income is more a luxury is the single/dating/married professional without children or a mortgage/house. =)
I have a list as long as my arm of shit I'd like to buy. Sadly, most of em aren't gonna happen.

It has nothing to do with being able to afford it, it has to do with buying something because it's a certain color when you have one that works just fine.. (kind of like your retarded rambling about your pink ds or whatever) If you want to throw money out on that kind of shit you have every right to, but I also have every right to tell you how intensely retarded I think it is.

You are definately thinking of someone else. I have an Audi A4 that has nothing on it that wasn't on it when it left the factory.

How is this the same point I made? The point I made was why buy something because of it's color when you have one that is fully functional already. The point you are making may be a valid point, but it is far from the same thing.

Great word! I wrote a term paper on James Joyce's theory of aesthetics in high school which really stimulated my thinking back then.
Favorite Joyce quotes:
"Your battles inspired me - not the obvious material battles but those that were fought and won behind your forehead."
-James Joyce
"Love (understood as the desire of good for another) is in fact so unnatural a phenomenon that it can scarcely repeat itself, the soul being unable to become virgin again and not having energy enough to cast itself out again into the ocean of another's soul."
- James Joyce

Nothing wrong with getting a red ferrari if you had a black one earlier.
