Is this a good or bad aspect of micropayments?

Post by Animalor »

Chromehounds has released some new weapons on xbox live marketplace today. These download are different new parts//weapons for the game.

The way Sega/From chose to do this is to sell each new weapon individually online(for 100 XBP each, ~2.50) instead of lumping em all together and charging 15.00 for it.

So I'm left thinking that this is pretty cool since you can choose only to buy part that fit your playstyle/HOUND instead of being forced to buy stuff that you may never use, then again, does this give them the license to charge higher for each indivudual peice than they would've if they had bundled it all together?

Regardless, I had 100 points kicking around so I picked up an assault rifle for Soldiers that bursts 3 shots(no other AR in the game does this). I figure this is still better than spending it on dumbass gamerpics or themes.

I've got about 50 hours played on this already 20 to complete the SP and 30 online. Once you get into a good squad, there's a blast to be had here.

I think micropayments are stupid and it's only going to be bad for games because developers are going to be releasing halfass games now that they know they can get away with it and charge people retarded amounts of money to pay for things that should have been in the game from the start.

I think that episodic (if thats even a word?) content releases are cool as long as you aren't short changing the 60+ dollar game from the start.

Like if GRAW were to release a whole new single player campaign or something for 10 bucks, I would be all over it. But charging some awkward amount for some relighted mp maps and a new gun is pretty gay.
