Bird people, help!

What the fuck is this? I was in front of the mall yesterday, and out of a big group of pigeons, this thing came strutting out.

Hawk, Falcon? Double Winged Big Clawed Pecker?

I think he might be right - when they are young their heads are darker (when they get older, kind of like a bald eagle, their heads get very light).

Tough to tell without seeing the back real well tho - should have been a pretty standout red from behind.

Here is a pretty good picture of one - looks very similar:

Is it legal or illegal to throw a rock at it?

I think what Py is getting at is that he doesn't want to get thrown in the slammer for attacking a protected bird.

I really don't think thats a red-shouldered hawk. Its chest isnt the same.

It may be Harris' or Bay Winged Hawk found in south western part of the US.

Maybe he fell out his nest and was taken in by a kind hearted mother pigeon and is being raised as her own. Sounds like a children's book to me :P

The Cubans call them kli-kli hawks. One hit a power line and fell into my mom's yard. We took it to the bird sanctuary, but it still died :(

It is almost impossible to tell what kind of hawk it is. Almost all breeds of hawks look exactly the same when they are young. It is very difficult to tell them apart.

I doubt you're an expert on 95% of the shit you post about, but it doesn't stop you from running off at the mouth every chance you get.

If everyone had to post their qualifications before they posted here there'd be a lot fewer posts, zero posts from Midnyte, Metanis and Cartalas and this would be a rather boring (though informative) place.

brwwaaaaaaaaaaa

unclench you uptight pussy lipped way too confrontational gimp

never said anyone had to be an expert to post anything, be it related to what you say or otherwise

just said that i doubted anyone here was a hawk expert and i'm pretty fucking sure i'm right, giving that fact and the pics posted in reply to the thread i'm pretty sure i'm spot on as well about this beeing nothing but a thread - who's best at googling hawk pics and pointing out what they personally think is similar- contest.

and that's fine.

i was just saying

and i'm sure that's what pyrella wanted this thread to be tbh, i'm just the sorta guy that likes to point out the obvious as i did at the start of this post.
if pyrella really needed to identify the bird he wouldn't be posting this here.

ps. canelek, thumbs up for you personally finding hawks interesting

It appears to be a young Red-Tailed Hawk (Buteo Jamaicensis), or maybe a young Ferruginous Hawk (Buteo Regalis), both common in the south western US. Without a more detailed selection of pictures or an actual specimen, I can't tell you more than that.

edit: ...although Lynks' pic does look strikingly similar, even though that isn't a Harris Hawk (or a Bay-Winged hawk, as they are the same species, Parabuteo Unicinctus). The flattened head on that one reminds me of a different genus though.

cry, what are you 5 ?

and that wasn't an explanation i thought you'd care about, you got plenty around to care about, ego, forumpeen, colorful spandex clothing etc.

you just like to stir shit up for what ever reason, if someone answers, you make a poor attempt at insult (cry comment) and then fake uninterest then hold back like there was no tomorrow, you've done it before and you'll continue doing it.

it's how you argue, leave people hanging and have them thinking you really dont care. hope your wife really really likes you for some other reasons.

i wont see that no, i meant my post to be ill dressed humor, by pointing out that all this thread was, was the equallent of people sitting in a circle seriously discussing some big question about chance, taking turns rolling dice and pointing at them while rubbing their chin.

noel as per usual took things literally and got all defensive, for some reason noel has some personal issues with me, small and insignificant as they may be but he really doesn't like me (or my posts should i say) and makes a point to argue, perhaps to see if he can feel more at home with "the fnord" by trying to alienate the anon outsider.

i wonder if noel was the kind of kid in school that bullied others or if he was bullied and is trying to get even with someone :/ , i hope neither since bullying is rather nasty business no matter which side of the line you're standing on.

ps. thx Grakk i read your first post and as usual you are the kind of person that wants everyone to get along, if only the world was full of people like you :)

pps unfortunatly it's got morons like me ;)

I wonder which gimp-poster you are that we ran off long ago (I *really* don't need a response to that).

Anyway... Stick to armchair politics. Armchair psychology isn't your strongpoint.

For the record, I never bullied anyone during my youth. I did have a person who tried to bully me once. Unfortunately for him he cornered me once and there was no way for me to walk away like I'd been taught so I beat the living shit out of him and slammed his head into a brick wall a few times. That was pretty much the end of that.

One thing is certain, Tuddi is not an expert at spelling or grammar. I am really disappointed in Noel for missing those obvious mistakes, beeing that he has been the equallent of a spelling Nazi in the past.

I have heard that Al is an expert though. Not sure where I got that from.
When I was younger, I used to think that the world was doing it to me and that the world owes me some thing…When you're a teeny bopper, that's what you think. I'm 40 now, I don't think that anymore, because I found out it doesn't f--king work. One has to go through that. I think that in the past someone other than myself cracked on Tuddi for his spelling and grammar and he stated that English wasn't his first language. I personally cut people who are speaking English as a second language some slack.
