NYC

Post by Dups. »

So I live about 6 hours away from NYC and I decided that I'd drive up sometime soon and grab a hotel.

Now I know some of you are actually from New York or probably have been a few times.

I have driven in large enough cities such as Toronto and Montreal and I am not a nervous driver. I have checked out a few driving in new york tips websites and have learnt some pretty interesting things by doing so.

I am trying to learn and read up as much as I can to make this experience as enjoyable as possible.

So I am not certain which hotel I will be staying at but my wife's cousin knows a few people with connections to some good hotels for good prices so that isn't much of a concern for me.

My main concerns is driving in New York city if my hotel happens to be thereabouts. I was planning on using the nyc subway system. Once again I have used the toronto and montreal subway system... although it isn't as complexe as the nyc subway system.

So does anyone , after a few obvious jokes, have any links to helpful sites about new york city that I could read up on before going there.

TIA
I have no sense of decency. This way , all my other senses are enhanced!

The nyc subway system is pretty confusing, especially your first time there. Get a map, and keep in mind that not all stations are open 24 hours. I'm not sure how you would go about obtaining a list of the ones that are, but I'd imagine it would be on the MTA website somewhere.

if you find a parking space within 3 miles of your destination, you got lucky...

Seriosly take cabs in the manhattan or the other downtown areas. much less hassle. The subways can get might scary!~

YO MOTHAFUCKA LETS PARTAAAAAAAY!!!!

then again, i don't really know you. and i'm underage.

my advice to you is not to drive to new york city. see if you can get a bus or a flight. getting around manhattan is a pain in the ass 7 days a week. the public transportation system here can get you from A to B faster and cheaper than all the gas money you're going to waste sitting in traffic.

fun stuff to do? do you like touristy stuff or fun stuff. definately hit up times square. check out a few broadway shows, ask around for some good comedy clubs, they're always advertising for them on the street. definately check out the ESPN zone, take a trip to NBC studios @ rockafeller center. go to central park, walk all the way through it. it's worth a look to go down to the WTC site just to see it in person.

there's a bunch more to do..check this site out. http://www.nyc.gov/portal/index.jsp?epi ... 4601c789a0

*rewind 10 years*

fresh out of college, drunk at a party with some friends... 'want to go to new york!?' hell yeah...

Well luckily the driver was sober... when we finally arrived in New York and looked for parking spots... found a lot, but the arm was down.
Bro came up to window and asked our female driver for 40$... me and my bro said no way, we needed a ticket or something... but our driver gladly coughed up the cash...

Much to her chagrin, the guy walked away down the street... with 'our' money. Easiest cash he made that night im sure.

But we did have a hell of a time after that. Very good 2 days of my life that i can almost recall.
