Motherboard/Proc/Video recommendation

Post by Midgen »

So,

My AMD 3200/NVidia 9500 system is showing it's age, and I've started doing some gaming on my PC again.

Can anyone recommend a Mobo/Video combo?

I'm looking to go pretty high end but not the VERY top.

I havn't had time to do much research since I bought my current rig, so I don't even know what's good.

I've always preferred NVidia and AMD, but from what I'm gathering, Intel and ATI have stepped up a bit. I'd be willing to consider anything at this point.

Suggestions?

You may want to look at the new Intel Core Duo E6300. They have another post about it around here.. but yeah it falls right under the AMD FX 62 and costs around $220 from various outlets.

If you just must have AMD, they just dropped the price on the AM2 X2 4000 series by around $100-200 each.

As for video cards, the 7600 series is pretty solid for its price. I get good framerates (By good I mean 50-60 in WoW, don't have numbers for EQ2 / Oblivion but they look good) in WoW / EQ2 / Oblivion. I would go with the 256mb DDR3 or 512 MB DDR 2, pending if you need faster graphics memory vs lots of it. They both run around $150.

Mobo I would go with Asus or Gigabyte. I would get one with SATA II support also. Other than that, just about any of their $100-$150 models are solid.
