Freespace 2

Post by Kryshade »

I've heard of this game, and I'm ashamed to say, I've never played it. It looks pretty cool, and I used to love the x-wing series. I remember having hours of fun playing that, and it's been awhile since I've playd a space sim. Problem is, the only place I've found this game is ebay, and people are overcharging for a game from 1999. So is this game worth the price, and how is it overall? I'm not a huge graphics nut, although I do enjoy a good looking game, and something to clunky graphics wise tends to distract me. Does anyone have this and want to sell it, or does EB games still carry this?

I think you should give Freelancer a try if you liked Freespace.

I personally think Freelancer is better, but then again, i think X2 is the best one of them all.

Freespace 1 and 2 are both absolutely amazing.

They come with mission editors too if you're into that sort of thing.

seconded or seventhed or whatever. Great series, and I did enjoy Freelancer as well, but in a different way.

Must have, make sure you have a good joystick, too. One that feels comfortable to sit there and hold for 6 hours because you forget that you're sitting at your computer...

Cool, thanks for all the recommendations! I'll definately pick this up... looks like the only place to find it is Ebay though. People want $50 for a game from 1999!!! If any of you have it and want to sell it, let me know!

Ok, so I found a copy of this on ebay that I won... my next question is I understand that there is something called the Source Code Project for this game that is supposed to greatly enhance the graphics to bring it into line with games of today (vs. a 7 year old game). Has anyone used this and if so what do you think? Did it cause any problems for anyone? Are the graphics OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS better etc?

What's wrong with 7 year old graphics? I still play EQ with old models!

I played it about a year ago, original game.

It still looked great, very immersive. The game is more about the storyline and the combat than the graphics, but the graphics serve their purpose of pulling you into the game.
