DO NOT WATCH THIS AT WORK! VERY NSFW!!! - If you have headphones and a private area, then by all means. No nudity but a lot of dialogue that people might find offensive.

Hmm, that's a good question and one I've always had a terrible time with. Ranking things is so difficult and subjective to how old I was, what point in life I was at, what point of maurity, etc.
Staying semi-current and not going back too far and in now particular order, I'd have to say...
Meet the Parents 1&2, Clerks 2, 40 yr old virgin are all I can think o. I'm terrible at this.

Saw it at lunch today--I agree on the great followup. Smith did a great job of keeping the Indy feel while keeping the humor coming almost nonstop. This film is definately driven by dialogue, which was quite refreshing as a sequel to the film that won him such a huge cult following.

I generally find myself agreeing with the folks who do reviews at Pajiba, and from what they're saying Clerks II looks to be a most excellent movie

Review is a good read, regardless of the movie!

It's very much in the same vein as the original. I think it's safe to say that if you like the original, you'll like this. Personally, I didn't like it quite as much, but by no means would I consider it bad. I seriously doubt that it will shatter your childhood the way Aeon Flux did.Syenye wrote:i'm very scared that this movie will ruin something i love and i will cry like i did at aeon flux. but perhaps i will check it out if none of you cried.

That Pillowpants scene was priceless.
Ahh YouTube
How really bad per-say but if you're in a highly anal environment, I wouldn't open this.

I was worried when going into the film that it would be like so many other comedy sequels where they just rehash the same formula/jokes. I'm glad to see that Smith is on top of his game with this as it's a perfect blend of dialogue, crude humor, and semi-touching moments. I even loved Randall's speech to Dante near the end of the film. Elias was kinda hit or miss for me but the Pillowpants speech will go down as the most creepy yet humorous speech in a film.
This is late but I just read about this on another forum.
Joel Siegel Storms Out
Any movie that repulses Joel Siegel enough to make a big scene and walk out of the screening should win some type of award.

Oh, and your poet Eliot had it all wrong:

The entire Star Wars Vs Lord of the Rings scene. (The sound sucks, I recommend using headphones)
Again it's Kevin Smith so slightly NWS.

What do you guys think of that? I had always believed "tar baby" meant "sticky situation", much like he did. Should he be villified for it? From the context of how he used it, it's quite obvious he wasn't commenting on black people. The Article wrote:In a speech Saturday, Romney, a Republican considering a run for president in 2008, acknowledged he took a big political risk in taking control of the project after a fatal tunnel ceiling collapse, but said inaction would have been even worse.
"The best thing politically would be to stay as far away from that tar baby as I can," he told a crowd of about 100 supporters in Ames, Iowa.
Black leaders were outraged at his use of the term, which dates to the 19th century Uncle Remus stories, referring to a doll made of tar that traps Br'er Rabbit. It has come to be known as a way of describing a sticky mess, and has been used as a derogatory term for a black person.
"Tar baby is a totally inappropriate phrase in the 21st century," said Larry Jones, a black Republican and civil rights activist.
"He thinks he's presidential timber," Jones said. "But all he's shown us is arrogance."
I've always been more about meaning than semantics, though.

Or the parents who bring their kids to this movie. I was sitting next to a couple who brought their kid with them. This kid was young enough that he couldn't even sit still and even climbed up on mommy's lap during some of it. However, he certainly laughed at all the raunchy jokes, a2m scene and the whole donkey show.Winnow wrote:a2m
Enjoyed it. This movie must have been quite a shocker for the odd elderly couple not knowing what to expect.
Mallrats maintains my top Kevin Smith movie spot.
WTF, people?!? Learn to fucking parent and don't bring your kid to a fucking R Rated movie. No, you aren't hip, no they won't love you for it. All you will end up with is a foul mouthed kid who either knocks up some chick at 14 or is knocked up by 13.
