Quick Compilation from this thread as it stands now.
Sony has sold 4 units
Microsoft has sold 11 units
Nintendo has sold 12 units
Microsoft has a bit of an unfair bias at the moment cause there are people such as myself already have a 360 so it's a bit less of conjecture on that behalf, but the numbers in themselves are pretty interesting nonetheless.

Updated tally:
PS3 - 7 units sold
XBox 360 - 15 units sold
Wii - 17 units sold
The new totals are 39 units sold to 24 people (with 8 electing for no console). The XBox is leading the race as "primary console" and the Wii ahead in units sold and profitability.
[note: tongue in cheek, as our sample size is clearly not sufficient to be a statistically meaningful sample, even if it is rather similar to joystiq.com polls from last month involving 7000 individuals]

How so? The Wii is leading on all accounts.
OMG TOO MUHC GUINESS LOL!
Ah well! Better to have an international reputation of silliness than be considered the illegitimate/irrelevant bastard child of the most retarded nation on Earth.
Looks like someone was being her usual retarded bitchy self for the sake of her own disgustingly negative existence. J/k honeybun, I love you, even if you are a nasty fuck.

They are all far to expensive for me to even consider. Granted they can do more than just play games but when you think about them you think GAMES. Why do all that other stuff if you already have a computer that can do that all as well. These things are just computers without keyboards (though they can if wanted).
I will probably get a 360 as a father's day present. Some time down the road, I'll probably get a PS3 so I just voted accordingly.
edit: I just feel like typing "probably" again

Since the people voting, 'all three' clearly have a PC:Animalor wrote:Another quick tally -
Wii - 25

PS3 - 13
I havta say that for a subset of mostly hardcore gamers/MMOG'ers, I'm surprised the Wii is doing so well here.
Wii - 25
PC - 21
360 - 18
PS3 - 13
Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.

there's a difference between an internet-capable machine and a gaming machine. i quit PC gaming a while ago and won't be upgrading again until hellgate: london is released. that said, it will probably cost me the price of all three systems to put it together.noel wrote:Since the people voting, 'all three' clearly have a PC:

Yep, my approach to keeping the PC up to date involves a 1,200.00 upgrade every two years. That could probably be reduced to a about 800.00 (MB/CPU/Video Card/Memory) every two years if your HD/Optical Storage/Case, etc are still working ok. Need to get a new high end mouse and keyboard every year too!noel wrote:I totally understand that. I'd add that I probably spend at least the cost of 2 consoles yearly to keep my PC up to date.

I voted all 3.. I already own the 360, and my work will be taking down reservations for the PS3 soon, so i will of course be reserving that, as well as the Wii. Wii is only 250 bucks, no point in not owning it... PSP Bundle at my work costs the same.. The Wii controller is an incredible breakthrough, and for you nay sayers, you can also use your gamecube controller on it.
However, i will own a PS3 without a doubt since i an a PSX fanboi.

The problem with PS3 is it is NOT a game centered system. It may be marketing in the game console wars, but it is a MEDIA center with a blu-ray DVD player priced at 600 dollars. Last time i checked, Blu-ray DVD players are 1300. Not to mention the integration Sony will be putting in between the PS3 and PSP. Dont just look at the PS3 as a monster gaming system for 600 bucks.. you will be getting ( from what ive heard from friends at E3 ) a 60 gig hard drive, Blu-Ray capablities, monster gaming system, and some other things that i don't remember cause i didn't write any of it down.Siji wrote:There needs to be an option for at a much later date. Games are fun, but not $400-600 fun. Give it a year or two at least before it's worth it to replace the current PS2/XBox/PC in the house.

I'm sold on the Wii, which is mildly surprising, although I never fully discounted it months ago like some people did. I was leaning PS3 before, but now both it and the 360 are going to need to build a half decent library and take a price drop before i touch either one.

Sony is definatly making this thing to be a media server. I guess Microsoft chose to make it's gaming platform an access point to the same functionality through a media center PC.
PS3 will run anything from a CD to a blu-Ray disk, apparently has the capacity to act as a PVR and will play your games from PS1 on to now.
Had download capacity like the 360 also for demos and the like, will it be comparable to the Marketplace? Time will tell.
Microsoft has such a huge head start with the Media Center/Extender setup as well, I wonder how well the Sony offering is going to stack up against it.
All in all, looks like people who just want to game and not setup a completely new entertainment system are gonna be better off with the Wii.
Others will have to chose which set of technologies they want to use.

This sounds exactly like the arguments surrounding the Philips CDi back in the early to mid 90's.Gonzoie - Luclin wrote:The problem with PS3 is it is NOT a game centered system. I'm just not excited by the argument everyone seems to throw out to support the PS3:
It's not just a console. BLU-RAY for $600? Hello? It's a steal!
You can already preorder a Blu-Ray player (Sony BDP-S1) directly from Sony for $1000. So I don't know where people are getting the $1300+ figure that's thrown around. You don't think that will be cheaper at places like Best Buy? Not to mention non-Sony brands. However, will those be priced under $600 initially? Doubtful.
I'd rather have a dedicated player instead of a console that just happens to play that particular media format because it will normally have a lot more features and higher specs.
Is it nice to have? Sure.. Is it something that would sway me to purchase a PS3? Not really.
(And yes I realize there will be high-end players like Pioneer Elite that will go for a lot more than $1000. In addition, I speak only for myself and not the worldwide electronic purchasers at large.)

The interesting thing about the next gen format battle is that if you already own a 360, then the addon will be relatively cheap for you to get.
If you get a PS3, then you're set regardless at pretty much the same cost as if you had been an early 360 adopter and gotten the addon.
A few years down the line, if your horse loses the battle, then the price on the players for the other format will have most likely gone down significantly so it shouldn't be a major investment to bring yourself up to standard.
At the end of the day, this console war is still going to be about the exclusive titles.

I guess for the people that have to have the newest stuff as soon as possible, regardless of price, the argument of being a media center will get them hard.. Personally speaking only, I don't like 'all in one' devices. I buy a gaming console to play games. That's it. I've never watched a movie or played music on a PS2/XBox. I'd be excited about the PS3 supporting Blue-Ray because it means more space for better games some day. But I wouldn't have a single thought about playing a Blue-Ray movie on it.
Guess I just find the prices to be too extreme for gaming. I'll get a PS3, but only if and when the prices become more reasonable. Console games aren't exactly cheap after spending $400-600+ on a console itself.

See, you say that because your entire income isn't disposable like some of the younger people who are hardcore players. I happen to agree with you, the price point of entry is getting pretty high regardless of how someone cuts it. And how do you convice someone that a blu-ray is a necessary upgrade? The difference between DVD and VHS is massive and it still took awhile to adopt it as the preferred medium. The difference between DVD and blu-ray or HD-DVD just isn't going to be a selling point in the immediate future. If someone says to me, "Well, it's an inexpensive blu-ray player", the only thing I can respond is "so what". What is there going to be, 1000 outakes or deleted scenes? Commentary in 80 different languages?
A lot of people initially purchased the ps2 for its dvd playback capabilities, especially in Japan. I just can't see the next step as such a huge leap right now.

i'd have to agree. i'd pay up to 400 for a ps3 alone, but i doubt i'd buy a blu-ray player, even if it were only $200. not until the standard has actually become a standard.Aslanna wrote:I'm just not excited by the argument everyone seems to throw out to support the PS3:
