So when is the WoW expansion due?
New adventure pack Fallen Dynasty should be out in June and Echoes of Faydwer around September.

Hahah, that's fucking funny.
Adding content kills games?
Are you fucking dense?
The model for EQ2 was an expansion every 6 months with Adventure packs thrown in every so often. Adventure packs are free if you have Station Access and expansion are like $30 (and the last one came with the full version of EQ2).
Even casual players in WoW are bitching about having nothing to do (except grind faction/gold/materials) because aside from 3 BGs and a 4 raid zones there has been fuck all for new content in 18 months.

1st Expansion was Arabic Desert Style with Djinns et al (Up to lvl 60)
1st Adventure Pack was with Vampires (Bloodlines)
2nd Adventure Pack was with Gnolls (SplitPaw Saga)
2nd Expansion = Plane of Sky revisited? Floating Islands with chains etc (Up to lvl 70)
3rd Adv Pack is Asian style with Pagodas
3rd Expansion is Faydwer with Kelethin, Ak'Anon and tiny peeparoonies.

Reason i quit EQ2 back then was that the world felt so small!

Zek felt tiny and Everfrost + Permafrost and Lavastorm was the limit back then.
Whole world felt very small, there was nothing more to explore!
Oh and they did a friggin AGI-nerf back then too hehe
Good to see that they've added a few more zones and continents now!

Boogahz wrote:Any new races in store for EQ2? What's the difference between an Adventure Pack and an Expansion Pack?
Adventure packs are like mini expansions. Free if you have Station Acces and like five bucks if you dont. There's a handful of zones (common and instanced), new items, new quests and a few new spells/combat arts.
Expansions are like your typical MMOG expansions. Raise player and guild level caps, new items/spells/tradeskill recipes, dozens of new zones, new races or classes and other various features like Advancement XP and guild banks.
The thing I'm liking best about EQ2 is when I play an alt, I can have a totally different experience from playing my previous alt. Different starting cities, different zones, different quest paths, grouping (yes people actually group while leveling in EQ2) or soloing. On my latest alt, I've been trying to hit every single solo instance while leveling up... there's loads of them!

I must have missed most of this...unless you are counting the sub-zones of each city as different starting cities. I feel like I am doing the same thing with almost every character. Just my thoughts. I would rather have something new every 6 months vice every 3 to allow for max growth. Every 3 just feels rushed to me. Then again, no one is forcing people to buy the things and if they are not the raid / power gamer types it really does not kill them to wait. And, am I the only one that thinks that "Adventure Pack" sounds like something out of a kids Power Rangers game or something?

On one alt, I have over 400 quests completed.. without getting past antonica.... Level 23 solely on quest XP (combat XP disabled from the start).Boogahz wrote:I must have missed most of this...unless you are counting the sub-zones of each city as different starting cities. On one character I pretty much lived in Blackburrow/Stormhold/Varsoon, barely touching the overland zones.
Another Qeynos character adventured exclusively in Commonlands and Nek Forest.
There's a bunch of solo instances in CL/Ant/Nek/TS/Zek/EL. They aren't all that exciting but if you run em a few times, you're bound to get a named and some decent loot. You can start hitting the Splitpaw instances at level 20.
I guess it's easy follw the path of least resistance and do the same shit every time, but it's fun (for me anyway) to find shit off the beaten path.

haha, so which should it be? Never update a game, or update it often? The expansions did not kill EQ. They may have killed it for you though.Morgrym wrote:EQ1 is on it's last legs. Games certainly need expansions. And, they did push people away from EQ. I am not the only person that feels things were cranked out too rapidly and poorly. The die hard EQites will support it until it's last breath though, so I should expect nothing less. It's still a better game than WoW has turned into though. I give it props for maintaining and slowly drawing people back. Even if they are just circling the drain until V-Day.Boogahz wrote:haha, so which should it be? It's funny that those that don't play EQ anyjmore are the ones that say it's dead or on it's last legs. In my opinion EQ easily has at least two years left of life. I don't see how expansions push people away other than being poorly implemented (perceived or real). GoD for instance. It's not the fact that the expansion was released when it was that drove people off.. If was the content itself. Buggy.. Bland.. Retarded mob names.. etc.
No need to get all defensive. I was simply pointing out that the statements you made were factually untrue in both respects. I will, however, agree that full expansions every 6 months is too fast. I personally would like to see a 9-month minimum on expansions. I guess that disqualifies me from being a die-hard EQite. Oh darn. And, they did push people away from EQ. On the FOH boards it seems a lot of people have been giving EQ2 another go and the feedback has been unanimously positive. Especially from people that played it either in beta or early release.
). Still haven't finished the collections but the duplicate collection items i get sell well. The arena is also a quick and easy loot.
Remember that Splitpaw zones scale from 20-50. I like to pop back there every 5-6 levels to farm new loots. Harclave is ridiculously easy on my Illusionist (can run it in about 10-15 minutes) and it's 2 guaranteed loots. Upper tunnels are great as well as there is no timer and if the gnoll who drops the key is up, you're guaranteed a loot (sometimes just coin thoughSplitpaw is my area of choice for leveling from 25-30

Actually, I am playing again. Simply because there is nothing else out there worth a damn and I don't have a Vanguard Beta account. So, all I can do is wait and enjoy EQ for what it's worth.Aslanna wrote:It's funny that those that don't play EQ anyjmore are the ones that say it's dead or on it's last legs. Bloodlines had a phat skill though i read somewhere, Devastation Fist! Insta-kill! Moahahaha
I have DoF but I don't have the latest or, as I already said - Bloodlines. I have the skill from Splitpaw but I guess I'll need to get that insta-kill. From what I understand you need the latest to get the AA which offers some good speed boosts for my monk so as soon as I have some cash I'm going to pick it up.
Harclave isn't bad on the monk, it's MUCH faster than with the Guardian and I haven't tried it with my inquisitor. However I have finally been able to make some decent money popping in and grabbing a Robe of the Splitpaw Champion off the solo arena area. They sell for about 50 gold pretty quickly on LucanDlere, more if you want to wait I guess but they are so easy for me to get I just keep selling them for that. So far I've made enough cash to buy a misty mustang and full curbolii I can't see how I ever made it through w/o a horse before...
It's funny because my guardian in full legendary wasn't anywhere near as powerful as my monk in stuff that was grey...

wow expansion is dogshit anyway. blizzard lost all their good artists and designers right after launch when they found out they were basically getting fucked for making the most financially successful game ever. all that is left is hacks and retards that post on forums and have their eCocks jerked for them on irc by wannabees. it's kind of sad watching such a crapload of clueless rejects riding the wave of talented people.
ok then. if I was going to start a new character in EQ what class should I play? necromancers still look cool even after nerfs, but I like melee classes too. what ones solo well? I always fall into the trap of playing a caster and loving it until I hit max level and realize that I will never, ever get more than a tiny bit better while melee classes can double or triple in effectiveness.
what classes solo well? are there any melee classes that can solo and group? hybrids are okay but I prefer pure melee. monks maybe? I played a stalker like a year ago but I got sick of running around in circles fighting mobs and getting owned by stuff.
what server should I play on, assuming I dont want to commit to playing pvp yet?

Bruisers are great melee classes. They can solo well and tank in groups. They do a ton of dmg and have great avoidance. I play a guardian and just about any bruiser my lvl can tank as well or better than me and does way more damage.
They're the evil version of monks; if you want to play a Q char I'm not sure how they stack up.

Monks were pretty insane when I left EQ2 a few months ago, and they're still pretty good I'm told. They have decent solo ability, as good or better than guardians as tanks, and good DPS. Bruisers get better buffs though apparently.

It's really a matter of how fast they solo.
Casters vs Melee is pretty well balanced.
Pet casters are very good in group and solo (i'd imagine it wil lbe the same after the nerfs) but they are the current 'flavour of the month'. The biggest drawback to that is getting spell upgrades (unless you make en yourself). Players gouge when they sell necro/conj spells... and people pay it. I play an illusionist which are one of the least played classes. I pay less than 1/4 the price of conj/necro masters. Another drawback I'd imagine playing a necro/conj is that people have a less than favorable opinion of them in groups.
I would recommend maybe a illusionist or coercer. They are the least played classes. When played well, they are the best solo class... not in terms of how fast they can grind XP, but in terms of what they are capable of killing. I solo white/blue named (^^^ heroics) on a regular basis. It's risky and time consuming but really fun.
Coercers can be XP machines if you're into suicide charming.
The drawback being that not a lot of people knwo the value of a illus/corecer... which makes getting groups difficult at lower levels. But once you're in a group, healers and tanks just love it. The extra power regen and your stifle/stuns make their jobs a lot easier and you can plow through stuff a lot quicker.
As for servers, Mid and I are on Permafrost, so you may want to stay away from that one

Damn Miir, you're on Perma too? Had no idea.
And what Miir said is true regarding spells. Conj/Nec masters are outrageous as hell. Fortunately, with the tradeskill change in Tier 7 (60 - 70), spell prices for player-made spells have dropped by about 1/3.
For Masters though, forget it. I know my 66 Conj pet Master I is going for 40+ plat at the moment. Bleh.

ROFL, 40p.. are you shitting me????
There's so few Illusionists... less than 150 total on the sever over lvl 50. It's a rare occasion when I run into another illusionist.
I'm only level 48 at the moment but I've bought all my tier 5 masters (except my pet Ad3) for less than 60g each or have had them just given to me by friends.
I got 2 (tier 5) Conj, 1 necro and 1 Wizard Master this week and sold them almost immediately for more than 2p each. I think I may have even underpriced them.

I wish I was kidding. T7 Masters are friggin expensive as hell for conjurers. I'm not sure why everyone gives 'em the shaft for masters. Hell, the adept III sell for about 2 plat and I can make them for about 70 gold since I've kept my sage skills higher than my adventure level.
As an example, I sold a T7 master two weeks ago for 5p (forget what class) and bought one for my wife at the same price. I've pretty much given up on T7 masters for me.

To get the [unarmed fighting-style animations] you need to use fistweapons, cestii, knuckles, wraps etc.
Still, the Bo/staff animations were pretty snazzy when i played my Monk back then as well!
The AE-attacks were prettier using fistweapons though, using an PBAOE wielding a Bo you just spun around , maybe changed nowadays!
What appealed back then was that you could do three back-kicks in a row!

The Faydwer expansion isn't knocking my socks off from the SSs. The zones look more plastic than usual for the game. Kingdom of Sky made a much greater impression (this is all based off screenshots, I didn't play KoS). As for the new race, too little to tell, but I've never been one of the people clamoring to play a winged faerie!
I've definitely softened on my hate of EQ2. I've played it up to level 30 as a SK, and while it wasn't bad, it got pretty repetitive. There was a ton of content, yeah, but I found it so hard to find people to do most of it with. Shit like the Serpent Sewers were always deserted and no one seemed too interested in doing them. I think them dumbing things down a bit and removing the quest requirements to access new continents was a bit of a bad idea... I tried to do some ship quest/prison island thing off the coast of the Commonlands but no one cared to even try it.
Same goes for the adventure packs. Splitpaw was getting a lot of play when I was playing, but Bloodlines didn't seem to have much interest left for people.
I'll probably try EQ2, again, eventually. WoW is pretty stale for me now. I'm excited about the expansion, but that's months and months away. And Kyoukan.. don't play a SK. They're intollerably slow and weak!

I will say this.. the second they announce the Kunark expansion I dunno if I'll be able to resist
I've always loved the Kunark/Iksar storylines. I went through hell grinding faction on Dregor to max with Cabilis, but it was all worth it when I was able to go through the SK Kukhri storyline and obtain Greenmist.

Tradeskills are currently in a revamp. It's a fucking bitch to do anything less than 60 - 70, but the new recipes are single-combine. SOE said they are changing each tier one at a time.kyoukan wrote:and man, fuck trade skills in this game. I can make shit in real life with less effort.
So while the final combine will take less time, you won't get as much experience. As an example, as a Sage, I could make a set of 20 new spells and get about 1.6 levels of experience. In Tier 7 without all the subcombines, 20 new spells (if I'm lucky) get me 0.6 levels.

The first levels you basically mess around on the island or do quests for your home village (or slum, for us FPs!). You can go into Oakmyst Forest, the Caves, or the other lower zones on the good side at your level to kill stuff.
Once you get into the teens, you can hit Antonica and it takes off from there.
I've mainly just played evil side, but I assume it translates over.
I play a DE dirge on Nagafen, level 44 atm. Which is to say I get my ass beat by Q's on Nagafen, because I suck at PvP!
