holy shit. here is the moral of the story if you dont want to listen to me whine: Never use Direct2Drive for anything that you wouldnt want to have to download multiple times.
now the bitching
I'm currently on my 3rd download of the 4.5 gig Oblivion installer..
First download cut off because "Request expired" with about 30 minutes left according to their download manager which you are forced to use. No problem, I can resume the download right? No. You can only resume a download if you manually pause it. If your download is interrupted in any way, "Delete the original file and start the download over." That is from their customer service FAQ
Ok I have to download it again. "Maybe the expire thing was a fluke?", I think quietly to myself.
Nope same thing. Request expired with about 20 minutes left this time.
So after fucking around with the thing for about half an hour I figure out that I can follow these simple, simple steps to resume a download:
1) Locate the cache file for the broken download and rename it to "FUCK_DIRECT2DRIVE.IN.BUTT"
2) Start a new download (You have to have enough disk space to hold two copies of the 4.5gb installer at this point, or it wont let you start the download)
3) Immediately pause the new download as soon as it begins and shut down the Download Manager.
4) Go back to the cache folder and delete the new cache file.
5) Rename FUCK_DIRECT2DRIVE.IN.BUTT to the original filename. The original filename also being the name of the new cache file that was just deleted.
6) Go back to Direct2Drive and click "Download" again. This will "unpause" the download from the broken cache file and effectively resume the file.
Alright. I finally have conquered the odds and I hold the completed zip file victoriously in my clenched fist. TIME TO PLAY??? No.. data2.cab is corrupt. So now I'm redownloading the whole thing again
Sometimes you gotta love retail

I TOLD YOU ID SHOOT! BUT YOU DIDNT BELIEVE ME! WHY DIDNT YOU BELIEVE ME?
I think that's what he meant. Meaning if he would have got the game in a less legal way he probably wouldn't have had as many difficulties...Hesten wrote:Isnt Direct2Drive a legal shop for games where you can download them for pay?Rellix wrote:That's what you get for paying and obtaining your products legally.
