How one-sided can it be?? (NCAA)

Post by Kelshara »

Just finished watching the Uconn vs Washington and Villanova vs BC and I can't remember seeing more bias ever. Between the commentators (can you possibly kiss more Uconn ass??) and the refs it was just plain ridiculous. The refs simply gave the wins to both higher ranked teams. Now I had picked both Uconn and Villanova to win so this was good for me but holy cow.. almost depressing to see how bad those refs were.

Didn't BC go 7 for 19 on free throws (not sure the exact number, just that they missed more then made.)?

That would be the reason BC lost, not the refs. Shoot even 65% and they would be in the Elite 8.

Yes they shot horribly but did you look at the calls at all?

You can shoot 10% and still be the winning team. They played against the refs as well.

There were bad calls in every game but the reality is both teams lost the games on their own through poor decision making and piss poor execution.

Who the fuck fouls up by 4 on a guy driving in the lane as a game is winding down?

washington did get kind of robbed, even as they were imploding. that should have been a goaltending call, no question. that foul where that guy tripped was highly questionable too. no matter, i still have uconn winning it all. =)

I have Uconn winning it all as well so I would have been throughly screwed if they had lost, but I would rather that and watch a fair game. Those two calls were damn obvious, and they were only two of them. Nova and Uconn didn't get fouls for things that the other teams were called on every time.

I guess I am different then most, I said it in the Super BOwl post and I will say it in this one. Refs do not lose games, coaches and players do. If you put yourself in a situation where a ref, who is only human, can decide the game, then you have only yourself to blame. If I am Washington's coach, I am up by three with virtually no time left, I sure as hell am going to make sure one of two things happen.

1. Foul someone, not a hard intentional foul but an obvious one so they get the TWO free throws. One of the hardest plays in basketball is to make the first free throw and have to miss a second then make another shot within a second or two.

or

2 put a couple players on the 3 point specialist play zone on the others and give them only the option of the 2 or a poor 3 point shooter having to beat me. I would not let the best 3 point shooter on the team get a look.

Yes the refs sucked, but in both those games they only need to look at the lousy free throw shooting and poor coaching decisions to see why they lost.

I think you misunderstand me. I do not mind at all if a team loses because of mistakes made by the players othe coaches. That is how it SHOULD be and the refs should be neutral and down the middle. I am bitching about the refs not being that, not that the teams necesarily lost. Although I strongly believe that the refs changed how the teams played the game and therefor they directly lead to losing them.
