Apple has vulnerabilities just like Microsoft. Apples are not exploited because you want to set off the bomb in a packed stadium rather than an empty comedy club.
Actually the guy in the article put it very nicely,
Apple's ability at damage control will be tested in the future if their popurity grows.

I TOLD YOU ID SHOOT! BUT YOU DIDNT BELIEVE ME! WHY DIDNT YOU BELIEVE ME?
As I would have a Mac acting as a server eh? Umm... what?"The rm-my-mac challenge was set up similar to how you would have a Mac acting as a server--with various remote services running and local access to users..."
This looks like a priviledge escalation exploit, very low on the scale of difficulty on any Unix-like system.
Macs aren't bulletproof. Desktop operating systems open to teh interweb are trivially hacked; do you really think if you opened a WinXP box to the web with an anonymous Terminal Server on the thing, and advertised the fact, it would survive more than a few hours?
