Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45

Post by cadalano »

Latest WW2 FPS focusing on the german campaign against the reds. Available on steam next month (can predownload now). I'm a huge WW2 buff so I will definitely check it out. Trailer looks purdy but I didnt see anything too original. I did like how you can see yourself moving around inside of tanks and vehicles though.

Ooooh I like all steam releases. I just checked out Darwinia recently and loved it. Of course, Lost Coast is an instant mini-classic, too. I want to marry Valve and have little steamy babies.

Lots of concepts in here that aren't present in most FPS. Bullet drop, propping your rifles on ledges for accuracy, realistic ballistics damage model, arty strikes, multi person vehicles, per magazine ammo count (wtf why do other games not do this?), diving, sprinting, crouched sprinting, etc!

The only thing it is missing is crosshairs. Iron sights are nice for realism but its too hard to simulate firing from your hip in a FPS game without some sort of point of reference.

I can't fucking wait for this. I am going to be a god damn nazi and whore tanks.

crouched sprinting
There's a reason certain concepts aren't in most FPS. Some of them aren't physically possible! What does crouched sprinting even mean? Does that mean they can be crouched and move as fast as when they're running while erect? If so, I'd be disappointed. It's impossible.

they really should have covered all of that in the trailer!

Iron sights are retarded. They fuck up my shit bad in DoD:Source. I dont feel right having to sacrifice the lower half of my screen to scope.

I will charge a buggy into the enemy base while yelling AAAUGH MOTHERLAND

no it means that you can temporarily move more quickly while crouched. i doubt its as fast as sprinting while upright. its not physically impossible to move more quickly while crouched though. i just did a mile while crouching and i feel fine.

Crouched sprinting has been around since automatic firearms were invented.

You don't move as fast as normal sprinting.

Thanks for your valuable insight though!

Well, i assume you move as fast as you can in a crouching position when in crouched sprinting mode, in comparison with other games where you sneak at max speed while crouching.

You can move relatively fast when crouching althought not as fast as sprinting in a normal fashion of course! :D

holy jesus. i dont think i could be more disappointed. haha

they got rid of the animations when you move around in vehicles apparently

i didnt notice any bullet drop unless it only comes into effect at extremely long ranges

graphics are fuckin' lame.. the models and textures look like cartoons and the animations are ridiculous

all the movement just doesnt feel natural.. you can tell they were going for realism but it just ends up being aggravating

theres like 4 weapons in the game for each faction.. and yeah.. thats how it really was in the war.. but at the same time they give every foot soldier a panzerfaust in addition to their main gun? Alright.

I will say this though: I got in an APC and made it roll over on completely flat land. My gunner and I popped out next to the thing with our legs broken where he proceded to shoot me to death. Thats war, baby.

i only gave it a few hours tonight before i couldn't stand anymore. I'll give it another shot later prolly, but it looks like DoD:S will continue to be my WW2 fix

fuckin' A for days n days! I've been waiting for this one...I've played "Forgotten Hope" to death...I need a change!
We still need a game that differentiates cover from concealment a little better. .
